  • Stanley Cup Playoffs!!!

    And we're off!

Who will win Lord Stanley's mug this year? Potential first round upsets? Conn Smythe candidates? Will Chicago repeat? Will my beloved Canadiens get their 25th cup? Let's drop the gloves and rock'em sock'em!

There use to be a time where things were very clear cut. These days, nothing is certain. Except Toronto finding new ways to lose. When LA won the cup, they beat New Jersey in a final that featured the 8th seed from both conferences.

If the conference finals last year were any indication; Pittsburgh, Boston, Chicago and LA all know what it takes to get there and would be strong picks to be there again. Throw is great seasons from Colorado, and St. Louis and the Western conference looks like it could be any of six teams. I am pulling for St. Louis in the west. I don't think that have the team due to their horrible finish but they deserve a cup.

The East is wide open. Boston finished strong, but in reality they could very easily lose to Detroit in the first round. It is anyone guess in the east.

That being said, I heard Ottawa is claiming they won 4 cups. If everyone is okay with this, I am sure the City of Toronto should send you a thank you card. The senators would become the owners of the NHL's longest Stanley Cup drought ....91 years.

          Montreal 5 Tampa Bay 4

Great game last night! Nothing gets the adrenaline going like an overtime playoff win.

          Go Habs go!

Although I am not in favour of claiming Stanley Cups or history of a different franchise (eg. saying the Jets are back in Winnipeg when in reality they are still in Phoenix). Being a Leafs fan I would love Ottawa to take that claim!

                The Canadiens

As a hab-hater for years I surprisingly find myself now cheering for le bleu-blanc-rouge. The current organization seems to be a lot classier then the arrogant lot that was there in the 90's. I've always been a Daniel Briere fan...it's good to see him still playing good hockey and it would be nice to see him win a cup. Carey Price...for what he accomplished in the Olympics, it would be hard as a Canadian not to want him to do well. I can even cheer for that Subban fella that came across as a bit of an ass before...it seems like he has really grown (learned some humility perhaps) from his Olympic experience. They play more of an exciting style now too and with the way they spread the scoring around it seems like a real team effort.

Since we have no geographical ties to any NHL team living in Sask, maybe it's easier for me to cheer for different clubs based on the here and now instead of blindly cheering for a uniform for all eternity.

So (for this year anyway)...Go Montreal!
...and that's why the Leafs will never win the cup

I'll go with that. Ottawa has the longest DROUGHT. WOO HOO!!!!!!!!!

Finally we agree. I'd love to see St. Louis Blues win. Miller is not playing very Miller like mind you. That last slide they had was very Leaf like. But whoever wins that series will need to regenerate. Could be 7 games with lots of OT. (But I hate Lapierre. No, not because he came from the Habs. He's a prick that's why)

How about Columbus last night. That was fun to watch. i like Pittsburgh, just not what they used to be.

Boston is always strong in the playoffs. They own the best "Bully" category and refs seem to always let things slide. Even the review board seems to be afraid of Lucic. LOL

And who knows about Montreal. Highly unlikely. It won't be the first time a great goalie turned a small, whiny, diving, little boy team into a good team. If they get past Boston, it will get interesting. I just don't think they have the longevity. Did I mention how small that team is?

Clear your night stand of any throwable objects and place extra pillows around your couch and/or bed while watching. We don't want your tv getting hurt.
