  • Honey, don't be afraid of the fat...

This may look like I'm bragging...be assured I am not. I hope not to offend anybody, it certainly is not my intent. What I have is simple and basic. But in this moment of reflexion I truly feel fortunate.

    This is my "today."

Over breakfast of oatmeal and raisins (I didn't eat) my wife said she wanted me to take her to work on the motorcycle. I decided the scenic route was the best way to go with it being only a 25 minute ride on rolling hills with some nice twists and turns. We were so alive, our eyes taking in still snow topped mountains visible in the distance, valleys, rivers and lakes. My wife holding onto my waist loudly screaming "I AM SOOO HAPPY!" What a wonderful way to start the day! Dropping her off at her work, after the usual goodbyes the last thing she said to me was "honey, don't be afraid of the fat!" Laughingly I said "yes my love, thank you, I won't." I kissed her and rode home.

After getting home I don my sweats, I-pod and go on my 6km run breaking in the "new" never worn Adidas runners I had bought 3 years ago and only just found this weekend. The running trail is across the road from my modest chalet style condo. It is a nice run through woods, dips, elevations, wilderness like...and blue skies. I was pumped and ready for it. Upon completing the run I stretched out my rubber bands and bow-flex dumbbells for another 30 minutes. Tone the muscles that I allowed to soften up over several months of laziness and procrastination. PAYBACK IS A BITCH!

Let's get to "the fat." The day before we had rib steak for dinner...two 16 oz steaks 1"cuts, 1 each. AWESOME!! But, looking at those huge cuts of meat I started "honey, these steaks are huge! One of these steaks could feed 2 or 3 people. It's not healthy!" She asked why...believe me, she knows why!

So I went through the process of explaining what she already knew about red meat, fat, marbling, cholesterol and calories. After hearing me out yet again she said "fat is ok, the meat is organic, no hormones or anything in these steaks, we have steak only once every month or two, our bodies need a certain amount of fat, eat and enjoy!" OK, so we split one steak (it was plenty) and froze the other one.

I'm now sitting on my small deck...showered, shaved and in my bathrobe...with bacon-n-eggs, three tble spoons of homemade beans, butter toast, slices of assorted coloured bell peppers, Havarti cheese and coffee...with a double Baileys.

A motorcycle ride, beautiful scenery, a wilderness run, hearty breakfast, coffee with Baileys...all very simple really but...right now I just feel so fulfilled and happy!!

IT'S A BEAUTIFUL DAY AND I'M NOT AFRAID OF THE FAT!!

    HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY EVERYONE!!

I tried to cut out the fat and sugars too much and felt bad.
Got good fats and sugars back and now feel better.

Too much sugar is not great for you.
But too much Sucralose or Splenda is much worse.
