I've been there 4 times and this is simply not the case.
It happens to the odd person if you are not careful but it is not the general case. It is probably safer than alot of places in downtown Toronto actually. You can get drugged and robbed in any country, people unfairly pick on Thailand.

You are stupid if you go down to the beach at night alone.
The only reason to go down to the beach at night is that you are a total cheapskate and are searching for a freebie. Because, yes, the worst most dangerous and cheap girls are down at the beach at night.
The ones that don't want to be seen in the light.

If you go to a nice bar where the girls work regularily they will not drug and rob you because they need to keep their job. So you know where to find them and can complain to their boss. Plus they have to regularily get tested and prove to their bosses that they are disease free. The authorities ask for documentation that girls work in the bars are safe too.

You just need to talk to someone who knows the lay of the land before you start believing trumped up travel guides.

There is more tgirls per square foot in Pattaya than anywhere else on earth.

However the best time to dance around in the streets in Thailand is during the Songkran Water Fesitival. Basically everyone dances around in the streets and shoots water at each other using hoses and super soakers.
