  • A forum question for Crag

Happy New Year Crag, I have a technical question about the forum. I receive email notifications when someone posts to a thread I have posted to. What they said is in the notification. The problem is this: There may also be other replies, but you will not receive any more notifications until you visit the forum again.

Why is it necessary to visit the forum again before I will get any additional notifications. If I read what was said I then have to click the link to go to the forum or I will not get any further notifications. This seems to be a waste of time, IMHO.

If it says you have replies there is no need to tell you again until you go read them right?

If there was a hundred replies in 5 minutes you don't need to be told a hundred times there is replies do you?
You already know there is reply, so at some point you may come to the forum to read it, at that time you will see the others.
Then you have read them all.
Once you leave again, it will send you and email if there is a reply, if there is more replies after that you will see them when you go to the forum to read the first one. I don't see the need to get an email for every reply.
You go to read the one you see them all.

I do not see how your time is wasted?
You go to read the one, or wait, what is the difference?
    Am I missing something?

Crag, why do you always have to be so nasty when I ask a simple question? I will ask again, if I get a notification that someone has posted a reply to a thread I posted or posted a reply to, why do I have to visit the forum before I get another notification. I have read the response and there is no reason to visit the forum unless I want to reply to it, so WHY should I have to visit the forum before I get any more notifications. I don't care how many notifications I get. That's the idea in the first place to let someone know that someone else has posted a response to a thread that they are interested in. Even though I have way too much time on my hands, this just seems unnecessary. Sorry if you think I am being a pain in the ass.

i wasn't meaning to be nasty sorry, I was just kind of working it out in my head.
I didn't think I was always nasty, I will stop.
I am always think in a logical way that is very annoying like a lawyer, but I don't mean to be mean.
Just straight up, I was considering making a flowchart.

I meant to add to the above, that I would look to see if there is any options in this regard in the forum as I have a chance.
You could also look into your profile settings to see if there is some option to change your notifications.

That's why I asked if I missed something, meaning in the logic.
So now you say it this way, that you are reading the first reply to your post in the email.
However if you got notifications of subsequent posts and only read them there, you would not see posts in between.
So the replies to your replies etc. etc. would never be seen by you.
I think the reasoning behind that is that if you only see the replies to your posts, you might get a wrong impression of what someone was saying to you. You could take it all out of context. No one post is meanful usually unless you read the whole thread.
So by the act of you returning to the forum, it can be pretty much assumed you have caught up on the thread.
Thus by sending you a notification after this it would be in context as you are up to date.

I am just trying to explain why I think the forum works this way.

For example I don't really like how people read all their PMs in email.
The reason is that half the time, they hit reply to the email about the PM and send it to Admin and not to the intended person.

So in closing I think the forum works this way as a mechanism to make sure everything is done orderly and you see all the pertinent information, not just individual replies.

I wasn't being mean the problem with the forum is everyone takes everything the wrong way.
            Stop it everyone.

I only ever have the best intentions and I am often wordy.
Not saying I don't get upset with people, but this is not that case.
A question was asked, I tried to answer it the best I can.

Thanks Crag for your "apology". As I have said many times before, I really appreciate all the hard work you do for Tgirls and TGirl lovers. BTW, don't know if you saw it but in last weeks Time magazine there is an advertisement/article about Thailand which makes it sound much like you have been saying all along, a great place to visit.
