Song of the week: The Sound of Philadelphia by MFSB. A classic dance groove that is undeniably catchy. Rating - excellent

Movie: That Thing You Do! A movie of a band rising to the top only to fall at the height of their success. Rating - very good. Tom Hanks was just to dry for my taste.

Spark 2012. The return of the "electronic magazine". A few things will stay all be it with a few slight changes

    Things that remain:
    • the redux
    • the woman of the month
    • the film and song videos
    • the celebrity look-a-like
    • the inspirational posters
    • food for thought
    • the bonus beauty/bonus beauty weeks
    • Jeopardy!
    Things that were removed:

    • ice breakers - that was a failure right from the get go when introduced last year
    • the woman of the week - it just doesn't make sense to have a woman of the week when every week girls are represented
    Things that are new

    • photos will now have frames/designs and display the location and name of the girl - the frame/designs will change from time to time
    • short video segments called "Spark Exposed". Im sure many will be pondering what this will be about. An idea I've been tinkering with for a long while
    • anything else I may conjure up as time passes

As it is all I can say is that updates will be on Saturdays or Sundays but do not be surprised if updates occur before or after the weekend, depends on the time I have

I always welcome feedback and contributions and will thank everyone in doing so. I would hope we can all make 2012 the best year yet!

There is often a trick to ordering the screwdriver to save money.

              Often,
Vodka and Orange Juice = Highball = $3.50

              Screwdriver = Cocktail = $6.50

easy to talk to, great listener and can dance

Song of the week: The Dead Weather - Blue Blood Blues. The lead member is Mr White whom some of you may know of such fame as the White Stripes and The short lived The Raconteurs. The guy has so many side projects its unimaginable how he can keep up but yet again this tune shows his guitar prowess and that rock still lives. A few deep chords in repetition with some backing percussion and breaks in between bars bot it sure lives up to the title of "blues".

Movie: The Prestige. Great friends become bitter rivals in this piece. On the one hand it keeps you guessing and on the other hand it keeps you guessing. What does that mean? Well, its a film that truly doesn't seem to want to end which for me in this case works well. Bale and Jackman work in their respective roles as Bale being the rationalist and Jackman as the curious one. Typically its a film of one up ing the other in the world of magic but also learning that with everything they do there is a price. For me its worth a watch for as I said just when you though there was a clear ending something else pops up to keep you guessing even after the climax.

I changed my mind. I said I wasn't going to write at length about the song and movie of the week when first introducing this years e zine but I changed my mind. It just seems to make sense to give some inpout as opposed to a rating with little justification

Food for thought: Once upon a time there was a wave. The name of the wave was, no surprise, Dave. Dave the wave. Dave was a big, powerful wave. His massive blue body surged across the surface of the ocean with great majesty and deceptive speed. Oh yes, Dave was quite a wave. From the moment he rose up from the ocean he felt special. He felt invincible. Ferocious storms battered him with wind and rain, great ships sliced through his very heart, and yet he rolled on. It was not for him to stop and consider the other waves. To stop was to die. Waves have to keep moving... or else. But then one day Dave saw a strange darkness on the horizon and, for the first time in his life, felt fear. What could it be? Was it connected to the laughing creature sliding across his face on a piece of wood? But before he could make sense of it all, he crashed down into the darkness. For a brief moment he felt a weird, splashing feeling, then oblivion. Dave was no more. He was now a part of the sea. And as we all know, the sea loves to make waves.

                Cheers!

Song of the week: N.W.A. - Straight Outta Compton. Old school rap at its finest. Hardcore stuff that rivaled the iconic Public Enemy. Rough street sounds by such great lyricists like Dr. Dre , Ice Cube and Easy E. You know , the truly sad part is here and elsewhere even to this day people hate...utterly HATE rap and primarily its for the stereotype that the media portrays rappers to be and thus gets people to think that rap is "tough" and "gangster". Bull shit. All genres of music have their agitators and I would gladly debate you on that. Anyways this song is classic as it pioneered others to stick to the truth in who you are and what you're all about and not...NOT fall in to this trap of having to conform and sugar coat everything. plus it really laid it on portraying the law as the enemy. I mean....listen to the line "when something happens in south central Los Angeles nothing happens" , that truly paints a bleak picture that people can not ignore. Ah well....you may not dig the sound or the messge but at least respect what these rap were doing.

Movie: Cowboys and Aliens. Often is the case when combining two utterly different categories the idea fails miserably. I wasnt really looking forward to this when it was suggested to me but I was gladly amused and surprised when I did. No, the enemy isn't the American Indian or Mexican Bandito it is indeed aliens. I will say this though , any other cast and this piece may not have worked but Craig and Ford play it right down the line. I guess this is the modern day western as it were. Anyways...the story is simple. those cowboys gotta defend themselves from those baddies and learn to play nice with each other at the same time. Typical stuff but the visuals the delivery the acting all meshes well. Id even say those who love the true western classic might find this enjoyable.

The answer to last weeks clue was: What is emphasis?

                            Food for thought:
We tell ourselves stories. We weave together different plot lines, wondering if the outcome of the story might be different were we to have done or said something other than what we had done or said, all the while knowing that the various alternative outcomes are just more stories - fictions meant to distract us from what's actually happening. And so we pause from weaving and commence breathing, gently and non-judgmentally saying hello to what is...

                            Oh man.....really

                            Cheers!
