Miss Universe Canada has officially accepted Jenna Talackova, a transsexual, as a contestant in the upcoming finals in May 19. Jenna has already represented Canada at Miss International Queen, a beauty pageant for transsexuals. The fact that she was accepted as a contestant raised several ethical and moral issues but for some it is a sign of equality. Canada is one of the progressive nations on earth with a very liberal application of its Equality Law as enshrined in its 1982 constitution.But many pageant fans are not happy with this. They see it as an affront to the establishment since contests like the Big4 (Miss Universe, Miss World, Miss International and Miss Earth) are meant for naturally born women. While we've seen lesbians competing at the state level as in the case of Miss California USA 2012, the current issue is far more controversial because this is about a person born as a man and converted himself into a woman.Still, many see this as a sign of equality and of freedom. After all, Jenna is legally a woman. Supporters say this is about someone who pursue his or her dream and should not be discriminated against.What is your opinion about this? Is this a publicity stunt? An issue of equality and freedom? Or a transgression to the sanctity of beauty pageant institutions?

If she is legally a woman then she is not a transsexual anymore in the eyes of the law.

So if females are allowed then she is allowed.
Lesbians are obviously allowed.

I guess she has to choose what card she is playing.
If she is a woman then she is just that, the transsexual card cannot be played here.

However since these contests often have a bias toward family oriented contestants,
lesbians and transsexuals may not be able to project this quality very well.

Also since these contests are no longer officially supported by Canada because they are sexist,
it is not really a societal issue. Society in Canada does not condone the contest.

So whatever the contest decides is up to them.
I do not think there is any human rights component here because it is a privately funded contest.

It is a beauty contest and since there is not an equivalent contest for men, any gender should be able to enter.

If there is rules about body modification etc., maybe the transsexual won't qualify.

If someone born a man is the most beautiful contestant, so be it.

If she entered transsexual beauty contest I dont think she can win, because there are more prettier tgirls in Canada
but ıf she enters as a female beauty contest, she may win because there are not a lot of pretty genetic girls in Canada

I Think lola, soda or mercedez could win one of those pagents. I'd love to be in one of thode pagents I'd dream to walk down and do that or model victoria secret always wanted to do that a dream of mine.
