Where did this terminolgy come from hun.

Pin Up

Pin Up really can't be classified as anything else. It started at the turn of the 20th century. Burlesque performers, what some would call strippers now would actually create cards/posters of themselves in racy clothes and on these cards would give info as to who the woman was and when and where they were performing. This was pre World War 1.

Skip ahead to the 40s and 50s during and after World War 2. Pin up then became like a "motivational/inspirational" tool to build morale to the troops overseas as also "brag" in the country as to who was the most beautiful of women. usually in this time youd see posters, postcards or even packs of matches with women in swimsuits or at that time something revealing like a miniskirt or such, you have to remember though back 70 to 80 years ago short skirts were risque.


Skip ahead. to the 60s and 70's. Sexuality was becoming more open. People were beginning to open up and learn that you can not restrain a persons desire. Pin up then made its way to film. You had now begun to see women scantily clad in movies dancing in garments like bikinis or teddys or something like that. Magazines and other similar media would even have "the pin up" girl .....similar to what you see now in The Toronto and Ottawa newspapers.

From the 80s onward things haven't changed that much except that what I would argue now is that "pin up" now more than ever is used as a clever advertising ploy more than anything where as at the turn of the century it was more used to inspire someone in a sense.

but....the key is its all about trying to be sexy as hell yet looking glamorous and not show a thing.


This is like the short short version of the history.

The main unwritten guidelines though about pin up are:

No nudity , any nudity and its not pin up anymore
The pin up model is the only one in the photo
The colors in the photo are to be bright and have a high contrast


Lately though people now say showing breasts/behind isn't so bad, this ties in with how the public views sex. It is believed that showing breasts by many people is like "So what big deal". Your set contains a few "modern" pin up shots but if you went back in time ....un un...no way.
