The director of "The Matrix" and the highly-anticipated film "Cloud Atlas" has become the first major Hollywood director to publicly come out as transgender.Lana Wachowski revealed she has transitioned while promoting her new film, theNew York Post reported.Lana has been transitioning for years now, the Post also reported. This new clip for "Cloud Atlas," starring Tom Hanks and Halle Berry, appears to be her first public appearance since transitioning.In the trailer, Lana introduces the film with her brother, Andy Wachowski, and director Tom Tykwer."Hi, I'm Lana," she says with her hair styled in pink dreadlocks.Lana's personal life has been a source of headline fodder for years now.In 2002, Wachowski was going through a bitter divorce from wife Thea Bloom, asPeople magazine reported at the time. In 2003, a date Wachowski took to the Cannes Film Festival told the British tabloids that the director was a "cross-dresser."That same year the Gothamist reported on a column written by movie journalist Dave Poland, alleging that Wachowski was in the process of undergoing a "sex change"."Every indication I have says that Larry Wachowski is now in the process of changing his sex," Poland wrote. "Dressing in public like a woman, taking female hormones and yes, having a sex change operation."Other public figures have transitioned under the microscope of public scrutiny.In May, Against Me! singer Tom Gabel came out as transgender to Rolling Stone and announced plans to start living as a woman, Laura Jane Grace.Grace is still married to her wife, Heather, with whom she has a daughter."For me, the most terrifying thing about this was how she would accept the news," Gabel said. "But she's been super-amazing and understanding."

I think the title of the thread is a little politically incorrect. I am sure if it was you the last thing you would want to see is someone posting your boys name as a headline grabber to get peoples attention. I think posting director of The Matrix would ultimately have the same effect

Plus there are 2 directors.....I didn't want people to think it was the other brother Andrew. Just for the record they are no longer known as the Wachowski Brothers and now are know as The Wachowshi's. Larry AKA Laurence is now Lana....

I get what you have said at every point but us being trans woman should not make it ok for us to be addressed as a male pro noun or by our previous names. I have read on articles on her and it frustrates me to no end how ignorant and the lack of compassion a human has for another human being. I don't feel it appropriate me thanking you but good for you for seeing an error and fixing it. xox

I made a mistake. I'm human and it happens. You really don't have to thank me because it is like thanking me for getting over my ignorance. The mistake I made was assuming that because she was famous and everyone knew her as a boy that it would be okay. You are completely right, and just because she's famous does not give me or anyone the right to do what I did.

As someone that cares about the view on the TS community it was not only politically incorrect, but shameful on my part.
