  • Google Phone / GMAIL Calls

I've been recieving calls for the past month and a half from two service providers from google phone. This person will call me all morning I will answer my phone and then I will end call and then two seconds later Ill get another call for a couple hours off and on or repeatly so I can't answer my phone.

The number of google phone from any computer or any email account is the same which is " 17607058888 " (it's not a person's phone number this is Google Phones automated number)

I was just wondering if there is a way to contact my phone provider and have that number blocked on my phone that it won't call me anymore.

    Will that work?

I haven't contacted Bell yet, but I want to make sure that it will work and that it will eliminate this person from calling me.

Since I don't accept appointments from customers calling me via Google Phone anyway since it's pracitcally a blocked caller/ unknown call so I'm not loosing any appointments from this number except when these lovely providers like to annoy the hell out of me by calling me all morning from when I update my ads til they feel it's neccisary to stop calling.

As I said again if I call Bell and tell them to block this number will it never call me again or because it's able to be used by anyone will it not be able to be cancelled out.
    Thank-you.

I have the numbers programmed into my phone..

So when they call it comes up as "google"..

I then decide if I want to answer it.. if I do I simply say that they have to call me from a real phone..

    Then I hang up..

Most of the time I'll just ignore the call tho..

I also have local pay phones programmed in and use an instant caller ID app that immediately looks up the origin of the number and provides me with all the information about it..

You can always block the # if your phone is set up to do that..

You dont get it. I will answer or I won't and right when I click ignore or if I let it ring. Right when it gets to my voicemail or if I ignore the person calls right again.

Why not phone your telephone provider and ask them your options, we are all not phone experts.

I know you can report harassing numbers and have them blocked sometimes.
If someone is abusing the phone system for harassment or other, this is a crime and Bell may pursue it.

Different types of phones and phone service can give you options to block stuff.
If you subscribe to a VOIP type phone service you may be able to
Some smartphone plans I think you can block numbers and stuff.

Is it possible if you keep getting these calls they not a client but a sales person or auto dialer?
I think you would help yourself by answering these calls and finding out who it is.
If it is a sales company, you can get removed from their call list.
Maybe it is something like a wrong number or other.

If no one is answering and it is just harassment then you can probably have something done.
If someone is trying to harass you and hurt your business, they of course would use a generic number like this to call you.
Addtionally using a service like Google to harass you would be cheaper too.

First make sure it is actually a real caller on the other end.
You are only assuming it is clients ringing your phone off, when it probably isn't.

If it is Google phone, report it to Google.

I thought i'd ask since you know best when it comes to these situations since from the past on the forum maybe someone else went through the same situation.

I called Bell they told me the only way they could stop the caller is to block my phone and no calls could be accepted which I don't want that, or change numbers which I will not be doing such, or going to my Blackberry App world and buying the block caller app. Which I will be doing but I have to go to Bell and figure out why it won't let me use my App World on my blackberry, I hope it's not something wrong with my phone from dropping it in the toilet serveral times.

How would I report it to google, I just googled and tried to find a solution that way, but Google didn't help me with their help lol.

If you complain to Bell you are being harassed, they are obligated by law to try and trace the culprit.
Phone harassment is communications fraud which carries heavy penalties.

Well you must be able to buy the Google phone service somewhere, so that is where you would complain.
If you can find a sales person, they should also double as a complaint person.

Also have you tried to determine who is calling you?

You can go to a place like telcan.net and pay for another phone number there that forwards to your real number.
This way no one has to know your real phone number and if you are getting too many harassing calls on one number just switch to a different number. I think they also have options for blocking numbers and stuff to these VOIP numbers.
It is really cheap and is also useful so if you lose your phone you dont' have to change your escort number.
You may even be able to route certain numbers to a message.

I know who it is but I am not mentioning their name becuase it's no ones buisness, I don't wanna start drama and it would give them the reaction they want. They wanna see some reaction from me.

So techincally them seeing this thread is enjoyment for them, but I need to post it becuase I needed the information you gave me so I can fix it.

See look. They have called me 72 times today.

You cant see that except the recent calls.

Okay, even though I know you blamed me for this it was not me.

The advice given is good up to a certain part. But....the problem cannot be dealt by the provider. Telecommunication is controlled by the CRTC in Canada. Providers can block 10 digit phone numbers because the CRTC only controls things in Canada. This means a number like 123-456-7890 can be blocked by the provider. But not the country code. A number like 1-222-333-4444 cannot be blocked by the provider.

Since the number is Google Phone, their servers are in California.(I think...US either way). They are controlled by the FCC. Unfortunately, since you are a Canadian (or a nobody to them) they will not follow up on this unless there is multiple complaints.

There is also the *57 option. This is Call Trace. You will be charged 5$ on your phonebill. This sends the last number that just called you to the police. Unblocked, whatever...the police can unblock it. You then have the right to file a POLICE REPORT with your local police. You cannot press charges. That is for the police to judge based on evidence given. Abuse of the *57 feature can result in charges on you.

The problem with *57 in this situation, is that the number is not Canadian. The local police would have to bump this up to the RCMP. Once again, unless there is enough complaints this matter will not be persuade.

Leading to the last and only option. Get a program to block numbers.

That is why I am telling her to get a VOIP number.

I do not think Voice over internet is governed the same way.
Using internet phone numbers makes it easier to uses programs to block numbers.

Plus as I say, i use a number at telcan.net so nobody knows my real phone number.
If I lose my phone I don't have to change the number.

Personally I wouldn't have mentioned it here at all.
If they know they are getting to you, they will continue.
Don't be such and easy target.
Dont' let it get to you.
                    Don't let them win.

I am sure you can set your profile on your cell phone to ring silently when this number calls.
and give it a special ring tone.
Then all other phone calls will have a different ring from this number.

Plus, if you get the police involved and they continue to call you, they are hanging themselves out to dry.

VOIP would be an excellent solution. Plus with it's ability to change numbers is very good for a travelling girl. BUT....Dita has another issue concerning her communication. She uses BBM. I believe this is truly the reason that going to VOIP does not meet her needs and the App to Block numbers would be more effective.

No you keep the Blackberry and BBM and your Bell or other service.

Then get a toll free, vanity or regular number from telcan.net or similar company.
My toll free number is from there and without long distance is it like $4 a month for a toll free or any number.
I have never paid more than $10 in long distance for the toll free.
I think they also sell local numbers for various provinces.

Then forward that number to your blackberry.
Only advertise the VOIP number and don't give out the Blackberry number for business purposes.
                            Just use BBM with friends.

If you lose your blackberry, you can go online and forward your number to any phone.

Using this VOIP number redirected to your cell phone, you can switch numbers easily.
And you can use their tools to block and do other things.
They have virtual offices and IVRs and all sorts of things.
This gives you so many options.

I'm having a blonde moment. Too much for me right now. If the caller calls back again, which hasn't for the past day and a half then I will relook at the thread.

                              Thank you Crag. *hug*
