"Data were only available in countries "with male-predominant HIV epidemics," including six Asia-Pacific countries, five Latin American countries, three European countries and the United States."

      Don't take this report lightly!

While the Huffington Post is not the most prestigious source of news, the story it refers to here was a study reported in The Lancet which is considered the most highly regarded medical journal in the world! Before anything can be posted (published) in The Lancet it will have already been reviewed by leading authorities in that particular field thereby weeding out reports that could be considered as "junk" science.

Just keep an open mind - the actual Lancet report should not be taken lightly even though it did not include Canadians in this particular study. Without reading the study in it's entirety it is hard to say what its ramifications may be on North American transgender sex-workers as we know them here in Canada.

shemales are 49 times more likely to have aids? I dont think thats accurate or true.

anyways maby everyone should avoid anal penetration. Its spread that way because the walls inside there is only 2 to 3 mm thick compared to the walls inside a vagina being thicker. Thats why micro ruptures can occur in the butt where it cant in da cun. There are many ways to have fun sex without putting it in the butt, wherez my female upskirt porno, i get 69'ed in 3 days.....by a cun. see thats safe,no anal.

As of 2009, 30.8 million adults were infected with the HIV virus. 15.9 million women, and 14.9 million men. Unless this is because all these women got it from anal sex, your theory is nul and void....HIV is spread a number of ways...anal sex is one of them.

As for your fantasy of 69:

Your views concerning abstinence to fight Aids is backwards, and similar to a stand the US government took against Africa in 2006.

US criticised for HIV aid effort
          Millions of Africans have HIV
US policy is undermining the efforts of African countries to fight the HIV epidemic, a leading UN figure has said.Stephen Lewis, UN Special Envoy on Aids, said President George Bush's $15bn Emergency Plan for HIV/Aids was too focused on promoting abstinence.
He said Washington was practising "incipient neo-colonialism" by telling African nations how to fight Aids.
He also accused the West of failing to deliver on funding commitments they had made to fight the disease.
The G8 countries could help to break the back of this pandemic if they viewed it as an emergency like no other emergency

          Stephen Lewis
Speaking at the 16th International Aids Conference in Toronto, Mr Lewis said: "No government in the Western world has the right to dictate policy to African governments around the way in which they respond to the pandemic."
Sub-Saharan Africa remains the epicentre of the Aids pandemic, with two-thirds of all people living with HIV coming from the region.
Two million people died of Aids in the region last year and there were 2.7m new infections.
The Bush administration backs an "ABC" plan to fight Aids: Abstinence until marriage; Being faithful to one sexual partner; and if those conditions are not practised, the use of Condoms.
In 2003, the US Government approved a $15bn package over five years to fight the spread of Aids.
          Abstinence programmes
But the US Congress has stipulated that a proportion of the funds must be spent on encouraging abstinence-until-marriage programmes.

Mr Lewis said abstinence programmes had been shown not to work.
"That kind of incipient neo-colonialism is unacceptable.
"We're saying to Africa: 'This is how you will respond to the pandemic' and that's not appropriate because African governments are eminently capable of deciding what their priorities are and what the response should be."
"You do not provide money on the condition that they reflect your ideological priorities."
Top US officials have rejected the criticism, denying it promotes abstinence to the detriment of other HIV prevention strategies, or that it is designed to appease conservative Republicans.
Mark Dybul, US Global Aids coordinator, said only 7% of funding for 2005 had been spent on abstinence programmes.
He said: "There is no evidence in support of what they are saying.
"It is colonialistic to not support ABC. ABC was developed by Africans for Africans - we are supporting their strategies."
Speaking to the BBC, Mr Lewis said the West had failed to provide sufficient funds to finance effective long-term prevention and treatment programmes.
"The G8 countries could help to break the back of this pandemic if they viewed it as an emergency like no other emergency - as the worst scourge on the face of the planet since the Black Death of the 14th century.
"That sense of urgency is not yet evident."

Sounds like slanted math, someone's fired up the old propoganda machine again.....wonder if gay marriage being at the forefront of the news has any bearing on their sudden interest in this.

those diseases you mentioned by those who do oral/69, who gets that?, must be rare, .00001 % of people who have oral/69?

heres another idea but i may be wrong. Picture 1 person having a cold. If another person caught it then gave it to a 3rd person then 4th all the way up to a 100th person. The cold of that 100th person would be so minor that it would not even be detectable because it was passed on from person to person up to 100 people. WHAT does this mean What if its true that if 1 infected person with aids gave it to another person and that person gave it to a 3rd to the point it reached a 1000th person? Is it possible that the aids virus of the 1000th person would be so minor that it will be absolutely harmless and almost non-existent? IF this is true then maby nature WANTS people to have 1000's of sex partners to filter out all the bad with the good to the point that aids and all diseases will become harmless, undetectable and almost non-existent. er am i completely wrong? its jus a thought. where are the studies?

Other idea, I think everyone should have a home disease/aids testing kit they can use at home that will find results immediately. Is there such a thing? This is when we need the government to provide this kind of thing.

I assume those rates are worldwide and therefore include the high incidence rates in Africa and third world countries. If you look at North America HIV infections for men who have sex with men/transgenders dwarfs female infections rates. This study shows that incidence among transgenders is even higher than men who have sex with men.

This study puts the MTF transgender infection rate at 30% in the US.
                http://www.researchgate.net/publicat...5b2828ee3e.pdf

Also, it is well known that transmission rates from anal sex are far higher than vaginal sex and oral sex transmission rates are extremely low in the absence of open sores so not only are certain groups "safer" but so are certain activities.

Anyone who is considering having sexual relations with a transgender females and transgender women themselves should understand that transgender females, and particularly transgender sex workers, are an extremely high risk group and should properly understand that risk when making decisions. Talk with a specialist doctor at an STD clinic to better understand the risk and things you can do to reduce it.

Finally, given the high risk why don't transgender sex workers use pre-exposure prophylactic medication? Why doesn't the government subsidize it?

I got my numbers here: http://www.unaids.org/en/media/unaid...annexes_en.pdf

I wasn't denying the report on TS women. I was just stating that it was a little "Old Fashioned" to think that not having anal sex will prevent the disease. Hence my stats showing that more women than men were infected worldwide. Everything else you said makes sense....depending on both your political and moral views.
