Join the Fight for International LGBT Rights

we've got 6,359 signatures, help us get to 10,000
Stephen Harper's Conservatives joined Russia and other countries with disgraceful records on LGBT rights and skipped the highest-level UN meeting ever held on the issue. Once again, Conservatives are failing when it comes to international LGBT rights.

It is critical that Canada participates in international efforts to protect LGBT rights and to counter homophobic and transphobic attitudes across the globe.

Seventy-six countries still criminalize consensual adult same-sex relationships. Canada must be a part of the fight for LGBT rights. Sign the petition calling on the Canadian government to join the UN LGBT Core Group immediately.

you have the power to create change.

we signed: Join the Fight for International LGBT Rights

      Seems pretty vague to me.

I have no idea how you can lump Canada in with Russia, that is the most retarded thing I ever heard.
To blame it all on Harper alone is ludicrous.
What rights do you need in Canada you do not already have?
Should you get a tax break? Then I should get a tax break.
Should you have more rights than other citizens? No!
There is no reason to have separate rights or no way to enforce it.

The whole LBGT rights thing is starting to get a little much.
The whole Olympics has become about Gays and it is BS.
Russia has a bad record but the Olympics is about sport not about gay sex.
In fact, there is no reason anyone NEEDS to have gay sex or sex of any kind at the Olympics.
I find the whole dilemma a bunch of crap.
Sure we can talk about Russia's situation and start a dialogue about this, but to make the whole event revolve around LBGT rights is just dumb.

Why don't we worry about something serious like Syrian refugees or starving children or the terrorism in Russia that may kill people. I don't see why people cannot go to a country respect their wishes and do our sport thing.
Going there and whining we cannot hold hands or fuck each other in public is crazy.

How about a petition to save millions in Syria.

I am totally for LBGT rights but,
To try and say Canada is struggling in this regard is not correct.
Especially when tax dollars are paying for SRS treatment.
There is Gay marriage, there is human rights, there is the constitution.
I'd just like to see people spend their timing on saving lives not all this other social stuff.

Since Babe brought up the topic of LGTB rights, I was wondering if anyone else feels that the trans community should try to distance ourselves from it? When I see the Gay, Lesbian, and Bi-Sexual rights movement I see a community based on sexual orientation. The transgender community is not associated with sexual orientation but with gender expression. Does anyone else see an issue here? Just like a woman can be straight, lesbian or bi-sexual so can a transwoman. Just like a transsexual man can be gay straight or bi-sexual. Why group gender expression with sexual orientation? That is like saying grouping Black Rights with the Gay Community. Could you imagine how black people would feel if it was LGBB (Lesbian Gay Black Bisexual)? Completely two different groups of people with different problems.

The Community should be LGB rights. Trans people need to stand together and fight for our own rights.

Yes, in principle they are distinct.
There is a reason for the mix up and this is a historical one.

I might add, if trans people want to identify as being straight, I totally get it, accept it and understand it.
As a straight guy who likes trans, I identify as being straight- so I certainly understand why trans people identify as being straight.

But to be automatically included? What if a transgendered person is straight?

Presently the LGTB community works like this:
                      Straight Men: Not Included
                      Bi and Gay Men: Included
                      Straight Women: Not Included
                      Bi and Lesbian Women: Included
                      Straight Transgendered: Included??
                      Bi or Gay/Lesbian Transgendered Included

Men and women are both part of the group without need for mention of gender. A transwomen or man can belong to this group based on their sexual orientation. Not because they are transgendered.

I do understand where you are coming from with the distinction between sexual orientation rights gay & lesbian, bisexual (which is bogus because they never come out of the closet anyway), and gender identity (transgenders). I think it's more grouped together because they are all seen as non-conforming lifestyles and gender roles as far as society is concerned. And there are definitely the invisible walls of prejudice within the LG....b.......(t) community because in general we confuse the hell out of every one!

Mia, thank you for signing the petition. I think it's the compassionate thing to do. We all benefit from that petition, somehow.

It's an ongoing, maybe endless, fight.
Just think, the illuminati have plotted for hundreds of years to achieve what they have achieved with their arm-in-arm perserverance, and just look what they have achieved.

Together we'll stand, and DIVIDED - we'll fall.
Will we transpeople fall, or stand?
Hmm, sadly, by the looks of the comments that followed Mia's first post - it looks like FALL, to me, unless we REALLY show sisterhood for trans people all over the world.
It hurts to think that some people can only see others' happiness from what they see through the rear-view mirror.

People see "NDP" or whatever political party, and they assume it's a vote for THAT party. It's not a vote for the NDP if you sign this petition. It's a vote for OUR rights.
It's just ONE petition to tell Harper to take part in the fight for international LGBT rights. We as Canadians will benefit if and when we are abroad. The WHOLE world should respect TGs as HUMANS.

I remember just a few years ago, Canada passed a law that states that trans people, now, have rights. Which means, we can go to court and have a judge rule in our favor if our rights have been violated. It's LAW, now.
Well, what if you are in some foreign country and you get attacked, robbed, beaten GANG RAPED - whatever, and they have no laws like we have in place to protect you. Eh?

As i understand it, it was the LGBT community activists that fought for those rights.
So let's thank them! We are in the same community.

As far as a "Trans community activist group" goes, who fights for OUR rights, i dont even know if they exist...do they?
ASTTeQ, is a small trans group compared to the whole LGBT community, and they do protests, yes.
But most m-f trans i see are usually too busy bashing one another, backstabbing and gossiping, instead of showing any sort of trans "sisterhood".
Too many escorts are far too consumed with being sex workers to pay for vain things we choose to buy for ourselves.

I think it's the LGB (minus the T) community who really fights and win battles for the rights of all the LGBTs. We (T)ees, being a smaller part of the LGBT community, just benefit.
We escorts, usually, just mindlessly bicker amongst ourselves about who knows more about being a tranny, and who knows more about silicone injections, and this and that, etc etc etc and, it all happens between client-sessions.

I participated in a few protest marches for trans rights with ASTTeQ, in Montreal, when Nora was around. I felt like i was accomplishing something important for our trans community, even if i was just holding a sign and laying on my back, one summer afternoon, with every one else in attendance, as we lie on the street in a peaceful protest.
Another march was so cold that, i had to, along with many others, hop up and down as we marched so we would not get too cold as we marched and held up held our signs in protest for our rights.

However, i really think the LGBT community gets the most done, and that is just MY opinion.
Lesbians, Gays and Bisexuals are not the ones who have to worry about being sex workers who cut down the competetion who are their "sisters in arms".
They do the protesting - we benefit - and then we (well, not me) all bicker with each other for the most stupid reasons imaginable, like, who's real and who's fake?... and who wears a wig?... who's on hormones?...who is OLDER than the other?...who is the prettiest or the ugliest...who is a CD or a TS?... or, how dumb this petition is.. and blah blah blah.
                          Such dribble deserves a bib!

I am quite taken aback to see trans people and especially, crag, against this petition.
It's for INTERNATIONAL rights for all trans people and yes
(GASP!!) God forbid, the LGBs, too.

                          You know...for us?...in other countries.

I doubt any of you girls and guys will like what you will witness in the scenes from the following videos which were filmed in, of all places, Russia. The last one is from Swansea ,Wales.
Crag is a Russian-German who once complained on THIS TRANS forum about how his people were treated badly?
Well, as a trans person, i am complaining in THIS TRANS forum about how TRANS people are treated badly ALL OVER THE WORLD and still in Canada. With a continuous, united effort, we can change that.

You know?...what you will see in these videos could be any one of you girls or gays or bisexuals or lesbians as you just innocently visit some country and just walk through a park or down a street or sit in a hotel room.
YOU wish to complain about a petition?...yea, sisterhood, indeed! Go figure!

If some of these transwomen/transvestites, WHATEVER, were not good fighters, who's to say they would not have been murdered, like that transwoman in Rome that crag posted about, in sympathy. She was murdered on the streets in Rome, like these girls could have been in the streets of Russia.

Imagine what COULD be your fate one day! I hope it's not.

You have enjoyed your right to give an opinion.
This is my right to offer my opinion - all i did was post a link to a petition for international trans rights.

I am not here to ARGUE, debate, fight, name-call, openly trash my sisters. I never did that and i never will, as you are all my sisters - even if i don't like some of you (and because of the aforementioned mindless bashing and bickering,
sadly, there are a few) so, please don't try to engage me in a confrontation. I don't need it. I have family for that!

Being grouped with the wrong people is the reason our needs are not met as our needs differ greatly from those of that community.

The benefits we receive are greatly outweighed by the confusion regarding our issues. Our issues are not issues of the LGB community. We have issues regarding founding for surgery, tax breaks for these things. This issues will never be handled by the LGB community.
