  • Transphobia: The Last Bastion of Intolerance, Bigotry & Discrimination

In this current age of political correctness no one dares make politically incorrect statements especially to strangers. No one sees two men or women together in the line at Walmart and then says to the cashier and others in line before they are out of earshot. "Are those two f***ots, d**es?"
No one would dare see a black man or woman walking away from the bank teller and come up and say "Wonder if that ni**er just got here from Africa?" And yet transgender men and women still experience this everyday when people wonder aloud and do exactly this and say "Was that a man...dude...guy? Was that a chick, girl, woman?" They may as well used the F***ot word the D*k* or the N word that's how insulting this is.

It seems that transphobic remarks, intolerance and discrimination is the last bastion for bigots to spew their intolerance and insults at another human being. Trans men & women are let go from jobs or denied employment for positions they are well qualified for just because they are "too weird" to hire! They are also denied rentals for this reason also. While "passability" allows many trans women to avoid a lot of this but that's not really the point. Transgenders are a part of our society just as much as gays & lesbians and minority ethnic groups are and should have the same respect, rights & acceptance as any other citizen or human being.

The acceptable inquiry after seeing two men or women together would be "I wonder if they are a couple?" The acceptable inquiry when possibly recognizing someone as transgender would be just that "Was that a transgender? Was that a transwoman..transman?" And NO asking, "Was that a tranny? is not acceptable either

Sorry , but you're the last person on this website who should be starting a thread about acceptance, lol..

So now you're little Miss Sensitive regarding how people accept, label, judge and discuss Transexuals like yourself. I wish you would showcase those same virtues you ask for in the above post, when it comes towards guys like me. I'm referring to your campaign to label and shame me (and others) as gay/bi, something I (and others) believe we are not (and yes you are trying to shame me, by calling me gay/bi)

Trust me fantasia, I dont want to call you 'her' or 'she' or 'girl', no more than you want to call me 'straight'. , But because we live in accepting society we do- or at least I do.. Its called tolerance. I believe it is impossible for gays to be married, but I tolerate it, and accept it. You don't believe a guy who fucks or sucks a transgirl can be straight. But do you accept and tolerate it? Clearly you don't.

A lot of people get whispered about when they are in public. You cant do anything about. If your a guy and put on a wig and go out in public- people are going to stare and make comments. It goes with the territory. Here's a question for you: when your out in public all doll'ed up, do you prefer people call you miss or sir?

    Be honest.

In my mind until TS stop calling each other faggots and calling other people faggots, they have no right to complain about the word faggot being used. I myself am tired of being called a faggot every time i get into a fight with some tgirl around here. I don't call people these names but they sure like to do it to me.

If the "F" word and the "N" word are SOOOO offensive, why do the affected parties continue to use these terms?
This is what you call pure hypocrisy.

There is also discriminations against escorts which, TS always take to be discrimination against them.
When hotels don't want you to stay there it is because there is a good chance you are an escort not that they hate tgirls.

If these words can be used in common conversation and popular media, why are they so wrong?

The other thing is people are going to hate you for who you are, no matter what you do.
They may be swearing about stupid faggots, wops, niggers, rat politicians, stupid crackers and annoying dweebs.

If you go to other countries people will just not like you for where you come from or the colour of your skin or the language you speak or the football team you cheer for or how ugly your sister is.
Hate is bad thing but it is something you have to deal with. YOu have to pick your wars where there real discrimination.
Not blanket the entire world with some happy happy Romper room mentality. If people offend you, don't seek them out, avoid them at all costs.
Close your ears and stop letting it bother you. You made the choice and you knew what is was going to be like.

I know why people stay in the closet but I am also sick and tired of people coming out of the closet.
Why does everyone need to march around with their sexual preference on their sleeve.
If you are planning to have sex with me I may need to know your preference, otherwise i do not understand why i need to know you like to suck dicks, unless i ask you.

Is Gay Pride not just a bunch of people identifying with their sexual preference? It is a way of life but not really a culture.
People talk about gay culture but isn't it really just sex?
Of course i will probably be called an Old Faggot just for bringing things like this up.

Another thing is people in wigs get made fun of, it may not be right but everyone does it. Whether you are a lady or TS or a man with a bad toupee.
People notice and are often mean about it. I am sorry but I have often chuckled about a man hair piece, this is mean since you don't really know the story of the other person. My point is that is not always specifically because you are TS. Some women are catty and will make fun of any other girls who is not wearing her real hair.

Also i wanted to mention that there is a TS that comes into the very busy mall where i work daily. She doesn't do much not to look like a man but sometimes he wears ear rings, lipstick and other makeup. She makes gawd awful homemade dresses which she wears around. She really does not look good or passable in anyway. This person i think would be subject to all sorts of abuse.

I have never seen anyone comment, do anything, look funny or even look funny at her.
There is lot of people of all types in this mall including no account creeps.
I have found this interesting since the small city i live in people are not used to TS.

As far as the last bastion of discrimination, far from it and far from the worst discrimination.
        How about this from Thailand.

Well where do I start on this one first off I have NEVER used derogatory terms such as fag or faggot to describe anyone's sexuality. I'm sorry you take offence to how I view peoples sexual preferences. To me this forum is about sharing ideas and debating over them. The last few threads posted "Straight?" and then your "Gay or Straight??" poll invites debate and if you don't like what current definitions of sexual orientation and sexuality are (based not on mine but on what every study on human sexuality up to date says) then why keep asking the question?

I have no issues with someone viewing me as transgender the issue is with derogatory terms. I have no issues with guys doing whatever they like sexually with t-girl, assuming it is consensual and mutual. My not agreeing that you getting bent over and fucked by a t-girl or sucking t-girl cock is a straight activity doesn't mean I don't accept the person doing it we just agree to disagree on definitions. I'm not saying you shouldn't do it or that you are a bad person or freak for doing it. That is what intolerant people are saying when they use derogatory terms for gays, lesbians, trans, blacks, etc.

I always get called Miss, Mam , ladies when I'm out in public whether I'm all "dolled up" or not. Not saying I never get "clocked" (recognized as trans).
The rest of your statements "Trust me fantasia, I dont want to call you 'her' or 'she' or 'girl'" "If your a guy and put on a wig and go out in public-" demonstrates exactly how you view trans women in general and kills your "I view them as women" arguments.

Well I've yet too see any T-girl calling guys faggots on here but maybe that all pre dates my time on this forum.

And agreed many countries are far behind North America or Western Europe on human rights in general and intolerance and discrimination of all kinds is rampant and most of these places are known as third world countries or dictatorship/totalitarian regimes and are generally undesirable places to live other than the people who conform to the narrow views. That doesn't mean that as progressive countries that have already come so far in human rights and recognition of minorities that the trans community should still be an acceptable open target or that we should just close our ears and suck it up. No minority group has gotten anywhere by doing this and letting themselves be abused and disrespected by others.

And No Gay Pride is not about identifying with sexual preference alone. It is about visibility in the public eye and progressing LGBT rights in our society. It's about members of this community protesting or campaigning for the same rights and privileges as every other citizen that we can be proud to be LGBT and no one has the right to say we are sub class citizens or perverts, freaks, etc. who don't deserve the protection of law and common human respect and courtesy from the rest of society.

It's funny you keep implying wig, as if this would be a determining factor in a trans woman's acceptance as authentic maybe it is for you cuz maybe you like to pull hair during sex?

Well I'm glad you two think it's something to laugh about and maybe the examples I gave were fairly minor but this is what happens when intolerance goes unchecked and people are allowed to treat other people as sub human or freaks:

As the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia approaches on May 17, the Transgender Violence Tracking Portal (TVTP) has released its first report -- in the first four months of 2014, 102 acts of violence against transgender people have been logged. Such reports are sent in to the portal voluntarily, meaning that there have definitely been many more unreported acts of violence as well.

According to an update sent out from TVTP, 10 percent of the 102 acts were suffered by transgender youth:
                  • An 8-year-old boy was beaten to death by his father
                  • A 14-year-old was strangled to death and stuffed under a bed
                  • Two 16-year-olds were shot to death
                  • Three 18-year-olds were stabbed to death, dismembered or shot
                  • Two 18-year-olds were murdered with no details being reported
                  • An 18-year-old suffered two violent attacks by a mob and survived

Among the 102-person figure that comes in from 14 countries worldwide, "36 persons were shot multiple times, 14 stabbed multiple times, 11 were beaten to death, three were burned to death, three dismembered/mutilated, and two were tortured, two were strangled, one was hanged, one had her throat cut and one was stoned to death."

Charges Dropped in Transgender Woman Islan Nettles' Murder: What Now?

                    Posted: Updated:

In the early hours of Aug. 17, Islan Nettles, a 21-year-old transgender woman, was beaten to death. She was attacked across the street from New York City's Police Service Area 6 precinct in Harlem, the life pummeled from her in a fit of violence.
In the days that followed, the police arrested a suspect, 20-year-old Paris Wilson.
According to reports, Wilson knocked Nettles to the ground and began beating her with his fists as she lay helpless on the ground. Witnesses alleged that Wilson's outburst began when he realized that Nettles was transgender, and that he continued hitting her as he hurled transphobic and homophobic slurs at her. The attack ultimately resulted in her death in the hospital days later.
Wilson was charged with misdemeanor assault. Many in the transgender community were outraged. How could such a violent act be considered a misdemeanor?
Yesterday, even the tiny bit of justice that would have come from a misdemeanor assault conviction was taken from us. Judge Steven Statsinger announced that the charges against Wilson would be dropped as the prosecution didn't have clear evidence that Wilson was the man who had committed the crime. Mind you, there were several witnesses at the scene, with multiple people identifying Wilson as the perpetrator. Still, this wasn't enough for Judge Statsinger and prosecutors.
After his arrest, Wilson's mother sought out another man who had allegedly committed the crime. This man offered a confession, though claiming that he could not remember much detail of the incident, as he was supposedly intoxicated at the time of the crime. This was enough to sway prosecutors away from pursuing charges against Wilson, even though police initially believed this man's confession to be false.
Too often, this is what happens when someone dies at the hands of anti-transgender violence. Victims are forgotten, perpetrators are let free, and the world moves on as though nothing happened.
Today is the 15th annual Transgender Day of Remembrance, a day when we can reflect and memorialize those who were so unjustly taken from the world for no reason other than being themselves. We look back on so many lives cut so short.
What happened to Islan Nettles is neither unique nor remarkable. What happened to her happens far more often to trans women of color than we will ever truly know. The official body count this year is 238, though that number is likely a gross underestimate.

                      It's not funny..

I think discrimination is awful.. It is however rooted deep within society on many levels and in many ways..

To think that humanity is going to tackle the problem of discrimination against trans people is simply not realistic at this point in time..

The level of discrimination globally is far to high in other major areas.. Religion, Race, Heritage and Birth Sex are all heavily discriminated against..

Once we see equal rights without discrimination available to all women on the planet then maybe we can push for that to include trans and gays..

While your statistical numbers are not a good thing.. the violence against women makes it look like a teaspoon of water in a swimming pool of blood..

Over 45,000 women died in domestic violence in 2012.. 45,000 Vs 102 trans people, 4,000 men and 8,000 children.. It' shocking.. It's unfair..

The majority of these women are strangled to death or beaten to death..

Society has a long way to go.. Those of us who are potential victims must do what we nee to do to make sure we never are..

Transphobia is not the last bastion by any means.. It's not even close yet.. sorry..

                        And I don't think it's funny either...

i just don't agree that transgender are the last bastion of discrimination. It's everywhere. Some more than others. Whites are discriminated against in some African countries. Believe me, I'm not trying to compare or looking for stats on who discriminates the most or who gets discriminated against the most. I'm only saying no particular group corners the market on discrimination. We may never see the end of it.

Well that's not how crime statistics are calculated as far as severity it is victims per capita and there are 3.5 Billion women on the planet compared to maybe a few hundred thousand transgender. So per capita the violence against trans women is much higher than for genetic women. And mostly my point refers to North America & Western Europe where protection and recognition of LGBT rights is far more advanced than those countries that have atrocious human rights violations ongoing and unchecked in many areas.

238 Trans People Murdered this Year, and That?s Just the Tip of the Iceberg

The Trans Murder Monitoring Project (TMM) has revealed its annual report on the number of trans people known to have been murdered in the world in the past year, and it makes for chilling reading.
In total, the project reports that there have been 238 reported killings of trans people in the period November 20, 2012 to November 1, 2013. Cases have been identified across 26 countries, and the numbers show several worrying trends.
Firstly, in terms of pure numbers, the countries with the most murders of trans people are:
                          • Brazil (95)
                          • Mexico (40)
                          • United States (16)
                          • Venezuela (15)
                          • Honduras (12)

Yet when considering those murders relative to population size, the list changes quite considerably. While of course any murder rate is entirely unacceptable, the USA?s known murder rate becomes relatively small (the project estimates it to be about 0.05 per million inhabitants), whereas Hondouras? rate stands at 1.5 trans murders per million inhabitants. That?s incredibly concerning

Fair enough.. but this is not the last bastion..

This is the smallest and least recognized of the bastions and probably the last to go..

                            Maybe 100 years from now..

We can't very well expect anything from a society so filled with; #1 Racial Hatred, #2 Sectarian Hatred and #3 Gender Inequality..

I don't see how we could possibly address the smaller things in their entirety until these top 3 are dealt with..

Sure per capita the numbers show things to be askew.. but the numbers are very minimal compared to the other main issues that society must deal with..

I'm far more of an advocate for equal rights for humans.. I do not feel oppressed, unfairly treated, discriminated against or anything like that..

I may well be a target.. but I am not a victim to society..

I don't support our government paying for everyone's SRS.. You're born in a fucking body just like any other human.. it's your body and you have to live in it.. if you feel it's the wrong gender and you want to change it then it should be your responsibility to do so.. it should not fall upon society to help people change their gender..

Changing your gender is a choice.. one that we often need to make for our own inner peace.. it is our burden.. not everyone else's..

Trans people that sit on welfare and then hide behind the discrimination card while the government (us tax payers) pays their way, including fake tits and full srs.. Trans groups have managed to get "Gender Disphoria" accepted as a mental condition and now many individuals take advantage of the system..

I think if you're going to change the gender you were born with then it falls upon you to deal with the consequences financially and otherwise..

Yes I pretty much agree with this as long as there is equal access to healthcare and necessary hormonal therapy anything else is cosmetic and for esthetics only and as such shouldn't come out of the tax payers pockets. But if discrimination forces trans women into poverty then that's a factor to consider too so just like other benefits and credits the Gov't allows should be tied to income level.

And seeing how far the gay community has come in 40 years as far as rights, recognition and respect and obviously embraced in main stream media as gay couples are so often portrayed in movies and tv shows and of course now the legalization of gay couples. There is no reason that the issues of the trans community should take another 100 years to address not withstanding the numerous other outstanding issues in our society. It will only take that long if we do nothing or tell ourselves its not a problem or worth dealing with. "Squeaky wheel gets the grease!"
