I agree something more exclusive, separate window, watch cams if we/they have them on. I never use the one we have as people seem to post and leave. Like a twitter feed or something. LOL.

I just need to clarify this. I'm a marketing person...that is my education and background. One of the techniques we have for a new product, is to test the market. We do this by releasing a small version of what we are trying to do. If it is not well received, we move onto other ideas that may or may not be more profitable.

If it already exists and it is barely used, what would opening another chatroom accomplish?

maybe change it up a little bit ... to show ur in chat without click that little box... i bearly see anyone on there...

Now there is a good suggestion. The shout box can also be used like a private messenger so if people could see you online they may hit you up for a chat. Also only logged in members can see the shout box.
Maybe if they can see see it, they will join to chat. I suppose another thing that might work is having a weekly chat night.

Mekeyla is pointing out the fact that the chatroom could be improved. The current version doesn't allow private chats and so on. I don't get any sense out of your first paragraph.

The current shotbox does allow for private chats.. click on a person's name in the chatbox for the menu options..

A chatroom with video chat is too hard to moderate and opens a whole can of worms and headaches for the admin..

If a plugin exists for such a component to be added that would use the existing user database for usernames and passwords it would still take tens of hours of work to integrate such a component.. Setting up a stand alone chatroom would be very easy but then people could impersonate other users by using there names if the databases are not integrated..

My vision would be a complete new content management system that had all those features and many more, plus all the features of SMC built into one.. But that would be 500 hours of work to set up..

I don't think the volume of the user base here would support a chatroom full of people all the time.. Maybe over time it would grow but the whole moderation thing is an issue all to itself.. Also video chat rooms tend to be server hogs.. I've set up a few and they usually need their own server or a significant portion of a larger server with 100mbps up and down to handle more than 30-40 users..

Is it possible to keep the chatroom on top even when you click threads? I think it'd be more active if it was more out there visually.

I think the main problem is that it's not big and responsive. if the design of it was more responsive sort of like a popping out chat bubble when somebody messages that stays on screen even when you enter threads (like Facebook messenger), maybe it'd attract more people. or if someone is online on the forum, they should automatically be a part of the 'active users' section unless they choose to remain "offline". every time I'm online, the active users section seems to be pretty empty n i just scroll through it.

Or maybe making group chats amongst just the girls, just the guys and an entire forum would spice things up abit to make people more interested in chat. Or as someone mentioned, having certain weekly schedules for a live chat would attract more people to it.
