  • Moral Minority blocks strip club in Regina, SK

So earlier this year Saskatchewan passed laws to allow legal licensed strip clubs.
Regina's first application for a strip club went to city hall for approval.
19 people against it showed up and caused the application to be rejected even though it followed all provincial and municipal laws and guidelines. This in a city of 250,000 people was decided by only 19 outraged citizens.

Of course all the usual concerns came up, the safety of the strippers and women in general (prostitution, degradation, exploitation, abuse, human trafficking), to increased crime (gangs and drugs), to damage to Regina's moral fibre and the community's well-being.
A young house wife came up with this:
"I petition to you as a young, married woman in her twenties who personally feels threatened at the thought of council going forward with this," said Regina resident Mackenzie Tippe.

Seriously a house wife feels personally threatened by a strip club in a big city? I can't believe people take this garbage into consideration.

The moral here is don't let the Moral Majority tell you how to live!
Here 19 people with crappy reasons spoke for 250,000 because no supporters came out to the meeting. Although I am sure you would be torpedoed by all the "GOOD" people for supporting SIN if you showed up as a supporter.

Anything like this or the prostitution bill needs you to get involved if you feel strongly about it.
Don't let the special interest groups and old church ladies decide how we all live.
BE THERE AND LET YOUR FEELINGS BE KNOWN.
    FUCK THE MORAL MINORITY!

Sounds like the 1983 Playboy fiasco in Canada !

? First Choice, one of Canada's first pay-TV networks, launched in February 1983. It originally aired Playboy Channel content at midnight on weekends. The decision to do so was controversial and spurred extensive protests from Canadian feminist groups. But as a Globe and Mail article explained a year later, in February 2004, the decision also attracted many subscribers: "When First Choice made a deal to broadcast Playboy movies and other programming, it moved thousands of people to subscribe and thousands of others to protest."

Now days Playboy isn't even risque anymore.
The Playboy channel is tamer than half the sitcoms and dramas around these days!

People have the internet in their houses and they are worried about a strip club miles away?

It's embarassing as a resident of this actually quite cool city. There's still a conservative streak alive and well here but in my opinion this is just the death throes of a small town on the cusp of becoming a big player. The youth are staying and the majority of the large numbers of immigrants are young and English speaking, that's so crucial.

        So so embarrassing though...

These people don't realize it is going on all around them anyway.
I don't even care if I go there, I just think these people are stupid idiots.
          This mayor is totally spineless.

A lone strip club like this would make a fortune off stagette/bachelor parties.
There is not one legal place in Regina to go watch strippers and drink, so if you want to have a bachelor party you have to have some illegal gathering with some sketchy strippers your buddy lined up.
Usually it is too big to have at your home, so you will be in some back room, closed warehouse or other non licensed establishments. Here it would be contained to one location instead of in your neighbours basement or something.
Plus then the fiance will know where their spouse actually went, which seems to be an issue with many private stags.

          Control it and Tax it.
