  • Fight for Trans Rights: Civil Rights Movement Here & Now!

Good News Journalism piece from Global's 16 X 9 show , which originally aired in Dec. 2015.

The fight for trans rights is the front & centre of the Civil Rights movement here & now that included women's fight for the right to vote , to be recognized as a "person", and for equality in society; the fight for Civil rights of the African-American population in the U.S. ; the fight for gay/lesbian rights, etc.

Kind of a sobering piece about the reality of many transgender men and women who are rejected by their families and left homeless and working the streets to survive.

I enjoyed the clip. LGBT & trans-oriented shelters and housing around the country is definitely a step in the right direction. The homeless shelters cater to such a diverse demographic, and there's no reason anyone going to these places should be in danger of being assaulted or raped. It's crazy, and disgusting. The same goes for feeling the need to prostitute in order to avoid becoming homeless. IMO the shelters should add a lot of security too, maybe have a greater police presence, and spread people out when possible for privacy and safety, not to mention security cameras, although idk how the shelters are run generally. It's crazy that those girls go out at night with knives and mace. Heck, I don't normally even go out at night, b/c I hear that's when all the crazies come out.

You Tube sponsored a ProudToBe video spotlighting the Transgender community in honour of Pride month June 21st. It created a firestorm of controversy on YouTube becoming one of the most watched and most DISliked video on YouTube as the anti-LGBT and anti-trans forces are going out of their way to express their disapproval of any other gender identity or sexuality than the mainstream.

The comments became so vile and hate filled that You Tube shut down comments for the video. Other You Tubers jumped on the bandwagon some in defense and others in condemnation of the "mentally ill trannies". Shows we have a long ways to go in achieving acceptance and respect from mainstream society to the extent that gays and lesbians have.

Fantasia, than-you for posting the two video clips on the forum.

I found the Global video to be very informative, educational and touching. It really showed the human side to the plight and fight that TG people go through on a daily basis.

It is pity that people in the world cannot be accepting of who other people are. Unfortunately, those angry and hateful attitudes are fueled by their own morality, political or religious ideology which, unfortunately, will take centuries to change. It has taken centuries just to get to where we are now but still a daily battle to prevent a regression to the old ways as some people in this world would like to see.

News and video clips like these can go a long way to change and reinforcing attitudes amongst people. Unfortunately, those that need the attitude adjustment the most will be the least likely to watch these types of clips.

Keep on posting information like this, Fantasia, and thanks again.
