I?d like to start by wishing everyone a very restful, happy and fun holidays and New Year. As the year comes to an end, I look to reflect on it, and how lucky we are to be working in an industry which we enjoy, in which we feel we make a difference and which brings so much enjoyment to so many people. It?s truly a privilege to be able to get up and look forward to going to work each day ? and I enjoy the interaction I have with (most of) the website members, the models and my industry peers.
Last year Kristel and I, tested a format which had some of our members who were going to be alone over the holidays, be able to have short correspondence with some of our model volunteers. It worked well, if not a little flawed. This year we?re trying something a bit wider. We recognise that many people can feel lonely over the holidays for many reasons. Even if surrounded by friends or family, some can feel alienated and unhappy. We have models that have no homes to go to, we know people who will spend the holidays alone.
I?d like to offer a personal appeal to you all. Let?s try and be a little more open minded, to be a little more accepting of each other ? to understand ignorance is not the same as hate, some people just need educating, let?s try and be empathetic before accusational and if someone needs a little lift up, what can you do to maybe do that?
Kristel and I, both find it frustrating when we can either see someone having issues, or feel that there needs to be a reach out. We do spend a lot of time looking to see if there is any little we can do to make people feel better ? but neither of us, or anyone who works with us, are mental health professionals and we need to be very careful about what we can do or say.
