Do transsexuals get offended by words like Tranny, Shemale and Ladyboys? What do you like to be refered to as? I mostly say girls and women. Is this stupid?

I'm sure I have used all of those words at one time or another but much as you do, I generally just use the term "girl(s)" or even Transgender at times but to me, Tranny has a negative implication. I don't like it myself, but some girls do use it themselves in conversation.

I don't think the new generation of transsexuals get offended by words like Tranny, Shemale or Ladyboys. But I do know, I get offended when people call me or other trannys, an IT. I find that very fucking rude and shows how ignorant they are. Even in toronto's gay community i hear fags call trannys,, ewww did u saw that IT? It's not a he, or a she, it's an IT. Even when i go on chat rooms, like meetmeinto.com, they call us that as well. It just shows u the world is full of negative assholes!

        That's pretty stupid!

Refering to transsexuals as IT sounds pretty stupid. I've never heard anyone say that but it sounds dumb. My first streams of thought are words like "HER" "SHE" and " WOMAN". It's really hard for me to see transsexuals as men. I love everything about the feminine form and beauty. I just get very sexually stimulated by a woman with a penis. The male form makes me sick to my stomach. So the idea of being with a man is sickening to me!!

Completely agree with this post .. I refer to transsexuals as her or she .. but I will admit I use the term she-males, tgirls and ladyboys also. But never ever "it". Thats just fricken rude!

            Words vs. context

Words themselves aren't offensive; it's the meaning that causes an emotional reaction. But sometimes, the context makes a huge difference in how it's received.

I'll use tranny in some situations, to refer to myself or my friends, but only with those people who are closest to me. Usually, it's part of a joke, or an exaggeration; I onced joked about how U of T has probably never given an award to a "tranny whore" before me. But if someone who isn't a friend calls me a tranny, I'm not sure how pleased I'll be.

Ladyboy seems to have a specific ethnic and geographic context to it, and it doesn't fit me because I'm white. I don't think anyone's ever called me this, and I've never referred to myself with that term. I don't really like how it has "boy" in it, but I suspect that might be a result of a poor translation from the original term, which (I think) is kaothey. Can someone elaborate on this term, please?

Shemale is tricky, because it really depends on context. It's a common term that a lot of people use, but also has a negative connotation to it - it differentiates me from what others might call "real" women.

I'm fully aware of my XY chromosomes, as well as the other differences, but I genuinely consider myself female. That's because the category itself (female) is wide enough to include people like me - if we so choose.

My identity is female; my circumstances are trans. I'll use the term transsexual often, because that's a term that many people understand (sort of) but it usually isn't derogatory. I don't use it for my own sake, but for other people's - it saves me from having to tell them my life story.

Many people adopt the identity of shemale because they truly feel that's who they are. Barbie, I've read many posts where you use this term to describe yourself, and proudly so. You also have stated you have no desire for SRS; does that mean you define shemale as someone with boobs and a cock?

General Question - is a post-op transsexual woman still a shemale?

I usually look at these situations as an opportunity to talk about identity categories, and potentially learn something new. This seems like a topic that deserves discussion, and there are a lot of people who's opinions I'd like to hear.

However, my personal favourite wasn't even on the list - where's the love for tgirl?

I like tgirl, that is may favorite. When I think or here tgirl, I think of a special girl who is special in a good way. Sexy, sweet, feminine.
I don't like tranny, it is like a slang that sounds a bit derogatory, and I don't use the term Ladyboy, as Nikki said it implies a specific ethnic group, so it could be considered prejudice.
I use the term transsexual rather than shemale.

TGirl. Yes I hate the word "it"-sounds like an object of sorts.

I dont think tranny is an offensive word, depending on the context it is used in.
Like if your talking to a girl you know pretty well.
The word actually can sound cute if used in the right sense.
It has a playful pronounciation to it, so there is a certain innocence in the word.
                  I think its ok.

I just got a new tranny for myself the other day and i did'ent just pic er up off the street ya know, I called in advance to order her, made an appointment to schedule a time to put it in. The girl over the phone told me $55 per hour, I thought that was a fair price seeing the ads over the internet and hearing about what others have paid so i took one for the team, brought my car down to the shop and now its running fine lol

Only PC queers and oversensitive faggots would take offense at these words. Calling someone an 'It' is going to far though, anyone who says that should get a swift kick in the nuts.

Funny, because both queer and faggot are terms with a very negative history, but because they've been somewhat reclaimed by the gay community, they're not as offensive as they used to be.

But I do know people who would object to your combining sexual identity with politics - I know plenty of queers who aren't the least bit PC, and quite a few faggots who could never be described as oversensitive. Then again, I know plenty of straights who qualify as both.

I think it's important to remember that even if I don't consider a word to be offensive, that doesn't mean it doesn't genuinely bother someone else. It's hard to know somebody's boundaries unless you know them personally, but it's generally better to err on the side of caution. If you think it might be offensive, it's better to avoid the word altogether.

Bottom line - if you don't know, then ask. Just because the word is ok for you, doesn't make it ok for everyone.

'It' should be offensive to everyone. 'It' implies an inanimate object, a lack of identity as if one were not a person...the The United Nations Universal declaration of human rights states, "Everyone shall have the right to recognition everywhere as a person before the law." So, uh, yeah, I would say 'it' is offensive.

I generally use terms denoting female gender (girls, ladies, women), however when talking with a tgirl I used the term 'ladies' and there was a bit of confusion about whether I ment GG or TG....so 'tgirl' it is.

...it's all so confusing. You know, maybe I will just use proper names to be safe...
