Hey Barbie. I also have my own business, not in the same line as you of course, but most businesses encounter the same types of problems with certain customers. I have also noticed that Indian/Pakistani customers are cheap skates ... but it's usually the ones that are "right off the boat" with thick accents, but the westernized once who were born here are usually cool. I think it's a cultural thing, they think it's appropriate to ask for a discount in every transaction. They will even go so far as to insult your service to get that discount, it's in their culture to be bastards. I'm always firm with them and they will pay up usually. If they don't pay up and walk .. who cares? Their loss! Lots more customers to fill the gap! lol

I used to do sales too and I found the exact same thing. I am Asian myself and I can see the difference between the newly arrived and the ones born here. Upon further discovery, I found out that it is ingrained in the old country to always ask for a discount. One customer felt that he had a right to a discount if he shopped at our computer store. I got out of sales 5 years ago.

      please be careful

please everybody - I also have had experiences and could jump in with something or other. But please be careful not to generalize - at least in a publicly visible place like this. Whoever is crass, unfair, disrespectful with you is an individual. Certainly there are cultural influences! But the bottom line is that at least one person in that group is bright enough to realize the way we live here and STOPS acting in this way. When you generalize, you make it an attack on that one good person. If only for that reason (and there are others) please stop the generalizing. Talking privately with friends, if you want to comment on this sort of thing, who will know? But here, you are definitely crossing a line.

Please, please, please contribute to a solution rather than to the problem. If these people you are commenting on today are blithering idiots, then give them the opportunity to smarten up by not insulting their cousins. Maybe one day, their cousins will talk sense into them.

Thank you, Sunshine for saying that. Judging people by their ethnicity is just plain wrong. It helps no one and harms everyone.

Bad people come in a wide range of all varieties of colour and ethnicities!

Sunshine has made an excellent point here and I?d like to comment further on that point. Bad people come in a wide range of all varieties of colour and ethnicities!

I feel that one of the greatest problems that many folks have, not only those here on the Forum, but in all walks of life, is that they have never given themselves the opportunity nor the permission to meet, and especially to get to know, anyone of a different ethnicity than themselves.

After spending many years in the classroom I was able to meet and get to know students of many different ethnicities, some of them unable to speak any English at the time. It was a pleasure getting to know them and especially to watch the newcomers to Canada develop into beautiful young adults as they progressed and moved on to work or further education.

In this hobby too, I have met girls from so many different backgrounds, many also being relatively new to Canada, and I can not recall encountering any girls who were less friendly, less honest, less likeable, less genuine, because of their ethnic background.

I enjoy knowing the inner person, and I could care less about the outer casing that only envelops their body.

Another reminder: Bad people come in all varieties and ethnicities!

I agree with toban and when I'm with a girl from a foreign land and she's speaking her native language, saying..."Hurry up and Pop so I can get to the club" what I hear is "You're the most incredible man I've ever met. I wish this night would never end! LOL

Seriously, I'm caucasian and I've met and gotten to know men and women of all races and nationalities. Some were really nice people and some were A**holes! It's who the person is, not the color of their skin or where they're from.

...fortunately, the crime white males can get away with makes a shitload more money for them, probably won't be on an episode of 'COPS', and can fly under the radar for years and years, like Bernie Madoff...We'll (straight-ish white males like myself) pay you $200 for a job well done with a tip, but we'll also take your entire RRSP when you're not looking...it's a dirty job but somebody has to do it.

Hold the bill up a the light. All the split numbers should line up perfectly. More importantly, you will see a watermark that is a face of the same person on the bill. If not, it's a fake. If that watermark is there, it is a real bill or the scammers have gone to an awful lot of trouble.

As to a connection to black guys, hmmm. well I don't think they have cornered that market. Sorry to hear you got burned Soda - I know how bad it feels. But there will be other bills and you will spend them and all will be forgotten in time.

Barbie, you are missing out on a good thing, sometimes a really big good thing...

Plus if you want to take it a step further after that, take the Bill rub it on a white piece of paper, if the paper gets ink from the bill on it then its gotta be real..ive seen fake 20's 50's 100's but mostly 20's and none of them have ever rubbed off

                            easy to miss certain things

A person cannot decide what colour or race to be. A person cannot decide which cultural influences to be exposed to to any significant degree. But a person can make efforts to make good decisions or bad ones that are appropriate in the context of their current experiences.

When you look at a person, you see the race, you see the colour. It is easy to associate the person's behavior with what you see and that association can be hard to shake. But it is quite difficult to see the decisions a person has made, even very recent decisions. Yet it is those decisions that make the person bad or good in the context.

I just think that if you are lazy and you don't focus in on people, you have little chance to place them in the correct category. Oddly, when you do pay attention, you find that you don't need to categorize them at all because you see their individuality. If they are good, they are good and if they are bad, they are bad.
