I had a bit of trouble with that too, Mark.
"Note: The maximum size of your custom image is 200 by 200 pixels or 19.5 KB (whichever is smaller)." is important for the size, then I think it only ended up working when I uploaded it to Photobucket, instead of trying to upload it onto the forum.

i had the same problem but somewhere in my User CP i found a check box that was unchecked. Something like, "Share my user pic" or something to that effect. If my internet wasnt 10kbs i'd go look it up for you lol. perhaps it will be quicker later :P
