How to change font size and color

Could someone, possibly Toban, enlighten me as to how to change to a different font, change font size or font color. I have tried using the above items but they have no effect.

Where you type your replies(Quick reply), there is an A above it. This is between the B, I, U, and the picture of a globe used for links. When you click on the A, you can change the colour.
In the main reply window, there is also this A for colour, but also just left of it should have drop down windows with "Verdana" and "Sizes" written in them. Change those, and you change the size and font.
