It's basically like Facebook or sites like that you can link to friends.
I think you can share albums and other thing on your profile publically or only with friends.
So you could specify that only friends could see certain pics in your albums.

Here's another thought. If I accept that person's friendship invitation, would that mean I would lose the possible invitation of that person's rivals? There are probably cliques on this forum. So is it possible to become a social pariah if I accept someone's invitation who is unpopular here?

I would tend to agree. I rarely pop on the forum and enjoy my privacy. Besides I am everyone's friend I do not need to be on a list.
