The north end has areas that are going through a nice "gentrification". There's same great old houses close to the harbour (west of the yacht clubs) that have been fixed up. You might find you can buy a small place up there and have a mortgage for not much more than the rent you want to pay.

IMHO, the mountain is a wasteland with little character...
