Well I don't think it's a matter of being hip to mass murder ... but you have to take it in the context that I think it was meant. I take it as a tribute to comic books, graphic novels, pulp fiction and the entire over the top campy artform (think Kill Bill, Inglorious Basterds, Batman etc. etc.)
