Genet is an absolute genius--read Our Lady Of The Flowers, or The Thief's Journal.

I have to say that this is the last place on the planet I would expect anyone to discuss French existentialists.
      I got soul...and I'm super bad!

WWJBD- What would James Brown do?

you're right--i was a little surprised to see the word "Camus" in a thread title myself! i think we can be fairly certain Barbie won't be weighing in on this one.

Shocked to see this title. Yes I have read Camus. It was required reading in University. I will say I am not a fan. I would have stopped reading if my degree didnt depend on the course.

Favorite book "The Old Man and the Sea" Read the whole think in one sitting.

Camus is not an 'easy read' by a long shot. its demanding and you have to concentrate--but its super important. the Stranger is easily one of the most influential books of the 20th century.

another great existentialist book is Jean Paul Sartre's 'Nausea', written in 1938.

look if you're REALLY out to bore yourself into a coma, I'd read

                  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Groundw...ysic_of_Morals

On the other hand, one of my favourite books of all time is-

                  http://www.complete-review.com/revie...t/thoughtg.htm

                  Kant- highly intelligent, indescribably boring

                  Fischer- highly intelligent, hilariously funny

I don't know about you, but I get all the indescribable boredom I need from listening to VMs left by my ex.

I've also read Do androids dream of electric sheep?(the book that was adapted into the film Blade Runner) by Philip K dick, and well, Deckard seems a lot like meursault, a fatalist, seeing through the present only.

Keep it up guys! I want more suggestions!

Read "La peste" by Camus. Excellent tale of the plague arriving in an Algerian city and how it forces the residents to accept responsibility in the face of death. I read it in french, I don't know the quality of the translated version.
Is that a cock in your panties, or am I about to get slapped in the face?

The Immoralist by Andre Gide was a very big influence on the young Albert Camus....
