  • Trans Phobia

Have any of you had this happen to you? Myself I never really encounter things such as this. This past week has been a very draining week for me. I am member of another forum dedicated to something I collect. They have a section of the forum dedicated to sales. I recently started selling off my collection. So I have been using this forum to do so (trying to avoid evilbay).... I made a transaction with one member, I told her I would ship out her item that weekend. I was about 3 days late sending this item out for I had gotten busy that week and did not respond to msgs she had sent as I did not check them. I receive an email from paypal saying I have a negative balance in my account because of this transaction. I msg the buyer and basically say it was a little harsh in not so many words and that her item was sent out the previous night by my boyfriend. I was then at this point called a liar among other things. The person at this time demands a refund. I obviously didnt as I mailed her item out. Not to mention because of me mailing it out late I sent it express which means even if I did mail it out the day she wanted with the shipping she paid for it still would have gotten there at a later date. So bonus for her, right? Obviously not we exchange more mail with eachother. At this point I am being called trans phobic things such as "`she man" etc... Well then she starts trying to call me a liar saying I did not send it out when I said I did publically on the forum because the tracking says it was scanned on the 27th... The item was not scanned in the city I live in at first but rather in a different city upon arrival. So I say this openly on the forum offering the tracking number and website for everyone to see that I am not making this up. I log on today and receive a msg from a member informing me of another forum where I am being bashed and basically made a mockery of for being trans. Saying such things as "? would never trust a man who lopped his dick off to pretend to be a woman" or "I would not touch anything that came from them for fear of catching something. I mean I am just blown away by the level of ignorance of these people. Not to mention these are grown adults in their 30's and 40's plus most have children! I am just at lost for words. Well I hope everyone else is enjoying their weekend! Peace and love!

3 days late and you don't reply to their emails, what do you want them to think?

I had gotten busy and was not on the site where they sent the msgs. Besides no amount of lateness deserves such hate. Please feel free to leave my thread. Clearly you have the same attitude as those haters.

Right--not responding to email for three days is a license to launch hateful and slanderous attacks on a person's identity on a public forum. Good solid reasoning there, man.

Do you work for yahoo or something?

        Maybe ebay....

I wasn't there so it is difficult to say for sure. However, from what I can see, I can infer a few things. If a sequence of events, cause and effect, is a reasonable way to analyse something (and I am not sure that it truly is), the seller did not keep her word. She neither shipped on time or responded to querries for 3 days. This angered the buyer. The buyer then lashed out publicly against the seller with attacks. This is not laudable conduct but it happens alot. How many people, wishing to lash out in anger, seek out the first perceived weakness in the person and attack that?

This is not something unusual. I myself have been called "nigger" and worse when the situation did not have anything with race. It was simply the first thing that stood out as a perceived weakness and so I was attacked that way. It might as well be an attack for being fat, for being young, for being old, for being tall or short, for having red hair. In the case of the seller, the attack was about her membership in the T community. This is not acceptable but I can understand the thought process that took place.

The real question is: "How do we live with each other now?" We each have to find an answer that suits us and, because we aren't perfect, we can expect that we will make mistakes and suffer for it in a variety of ways. But the question remains:"How do we live with each other now?".

I still say it sucks to be attacked with prejudicial words. I would prefer that people would deal with facts and actions and judge us on that basis rather than use derogative attacks. But then I don't run the world.
