It was 2-1 Greece. Nigeria did score the first goal.

Was a great game tho. That Nigerian really took out his frustration on the guy from Greece with that leg kick.

Greece will have a tough time with Argentina in their final game in the round robin but who knows.. I've seen stranger things happen.

Good luck to all the teams!

lol it was a good victory. but they wouldn't have won if the red card was not presented. they also got destroyed by south korea. and they will get obliterated by the argentines.

and yet you still call them the best? decent at most i would say.

the post above me gave a good indication to how good the country of Greece is at football.

              Greece vs. Nigeria

              TV Announcer:

The Greek defense has been very tight, giving up very few opportunities. Nigeria is going to have to find a way through the back door to get a goal.

              BAAHHH!!

Greece is in a terrible financial meltdown.

Surprising how even in hard times without two pennies to rub together, soccer still brings joy and excitement world wide.

What's so surprising? It's the worlds most watched and played sport.

In some European countries they treat soccer as religion but on the flip side I'm quite certain that they (Europeans) in turn would say the same about North Americas passion for hockey, football, basketball, tennis etc.

It doesn't matter either how financially stable or unstable the nation is either people in general came simply call up a few friends, find a ball and kick it around wherever they may be such as the beach, a dirt road, a grass park....wherever. Not many sports can be played by virtually everyone.

I am not unemployed, but had I been and in a country in financial depression then soccer would be last on my mind.

How am I going to feed my family?

I can think of ways to get a job or leave the country, or I can buy $100 of Greece stamped items and sit around boasting about games.

Soccer is great but where is the priorities.

If are unemployment rate in Canada was 30% I do not see people coming with the same enthusiasm as the soccer world championships for the hockey equivalent. I certainly do not see anyone caring about Wimbledon. The press would make you think it though.

                      That's your story.

In times of depression some people need an outlet to pick their spirits up. As for "priorities" its different in every situation. There are nations that have always been financially poor on the global scale yet in these countries some of its areas have soccer as the one thing to look up to or aspire to get involved in to help better one self or groups of people such as the family so in regards to thinking about how one would support oneself joining soccer would be the most logical move to make.

Of course there are other better off countries where "soccer" can take a back seat temporarily.

Some countries even devote millions into their soccer programs and place it of highest importance amongst anything else. Is it right is it wrong it is not for us to say or decide.

Having been to Europe I know of this and have even seen people become emotionally detached if there is no soccer around.

the biggest hockey or NFL superfan you've ever seen can't even compare to the typical foreign soccer fan. soccer is not about the game, it's strictly about nationalism and soap opera. the TMZ equivalent in S. America or Europe doesn't give a shit about celebrities, it's all about what soccer player is seeing who, or other bullshit player drama.

in europe there are various gangs and entire movements solely dedicated to soccer supporting, especially in Italy and the UK. completely crazy over there for a kind of boring game with like maximum 2 goals in 3hrs and players endlessly faking injuries

Burlusconi rose to power simply by adding in nationalistic soccer jingles to his campaign. instant votes

Yep yep. I know some of this to be true. Agree with the most part ...... except it being a "somewhat boring game" as I personally think its a wonderful sport . It all really comes down to who is playing the game that can make it appear dull or not . This can also be said of hockey, baseball etc. etc but that is another topic entirely.

                              .
A poverty stricken country who devotes millions into soccer surely must not be looking into their people's interest. If increasing the rich poor gap is right then tell me different, it is my right to speak but not to advise.

Look at the G20, this country is messed up and no one can stop them.

While I'm ranting. Unions also have too much power. How can a drunk TTC driver get in an accident and keep his job. This is insane.

Religion is an example of what brings people together. So does weed and it's a lot cheaper and more convienient. Just a thought.
