This thread is great, I always thought about going there, and I'm getting a lot of answers to questions I never even thought about. Thanks. I am guessing there is a high number that speak English ok then, is there a high percentage of crime that goes along with escorting? I was told it's pretty safe.

Well no one really calls it 'escorting' there, it just is what it is.
You can find escort ads, but in Thailand it is not really worthwhile.

In general the girls the work in the bars can speak english to some extent. Usually to get into the bars they have to be good with other languages, specifically english. Also should be disease and drug free, although this is often hard to monitor. However the girls that work in the bars are accountable because you pay the bar when you leave with them so they know where she went. So if she causes you grief or robs you she will lose her job and possibly worse. The police are heavily involved in the operation of the bars, mostly for kick backs, but no one wants trouble with them. Plus if she gets a bad name, she will never work in a bar again. The authorities value tourists so they are not happy when they are not treated well in Thailand.

In Thailand the country is split up into 2 basic classes.
Lower Class and Upper Middle Class, there is few in between.
Most of the Lower Class come from the rural farming areas and most of the Upper Middle Class come from the urban areas, specifically Bangkok.

So following this there is 2 different classes of ladyboy.

In Bangkok you will find the girls more educated and better off, nearly all the good girls work in bars. It is never recommended to meet girls on the street in Bangkok as you don't know what their state is, if they are not working in a bar something is fishy.

In Pattaya you find the girls are less educated and not as well off. Most of the ladyboys of Pattaya flock there from the rural areas of Thailand to make money for their families and hope to find a foreign man (farang).

In Pattaya you will find the highest concentration of ladyboys anywhere on earth.
The difference here is the large majority of the ladyboys in Pattaya are freelance and don't work for bars. So Pattaya is a little more dangerous in terms of getting robbed and such. The most common method is putting drugs in your drink and then robbing you when you pass out later.

On the other hand Pattaya tgirls are more down to earth, family oriented and often are looking for a boyfriend rather than just a client. They may not speak english as well but you can find more loving and sincere girls here overall.
So the rule of ignoring girls on the street is not the same in Pattaya.
Walking Street is the main feature of Pattaya.

Everyone in Thailand is so spiritual and friendly overall that it is really a safe place to visit. I think Bangkok is safer than most North American cities that i have visited (just don't try and drive there). People have a sense of personal honour there that we just don't have over here.
Not a scary place at all.

I have to agree with Craig about safety. I never once felt unsafe the whole time I was in Thailand. In fact these are the friendliest people in the world. Not just talking the ladyboys everybody there is like that. The food is amazing. The prices are incredibly cheap even when they think they are charging you too much for a cab ride.

LB's in Thailand are accepted as the 'third sex'. In general......if you are a respectful person.......and treat people decent.........then you should have no problems in Thailand. As mentioned by Crag.......Thailand.....really values the tourist industry......and I have never felt 'worried' when traveling around Bangkok. One thing for sure.....you will not see anyone smoking a crack pipe on a street corner.......such as you do here on the west coast.

I had a great time in Bangkok! I stayed at the Landmark Hotel which is just around the corner from Nana. I pre-booked and paid so I had this great rate of 65.00 net per night.
I went to Obsessions many times. Drop dead gorgeous Ladyboys!! I met quite a few nice ladies. Very laid back, once you get into the flow of how things work. It can be quite overwhelming a first. Some of the girls will come and stand right in front of your table. If you pick a girl then she will come down and sit with you. One night I had two ladies sitting with me. Lots of FUN!!!!!
The Landmark is quite anal about guests. They will ask for the ID card of the lady and then hang onto it and she picks it up at the security desk when leaving the hotel.
All in all.......there are so many great ladies at Obsessions. I got to know one of the servers there. She would take me to a seat. I would buy her a drink and we would talk. The bar fine is 600 baht and short term goes anywhere from 1500-2000 baht.
I went up stairs to Cascade just once. Big cave like place. Different type of LB there. They had somewhat more of a mix. Not so feminine ones( bodybuilder types) and some Feminine ones. I was looking for "Pay" but she was not working and has just undergone Transgender surgery.
I was in Bangkok for two weeks. Looking forward to going back again this Jan-March. Thanks to Crag for pointing me in the right direction!! Save your money and head for Bangkok!!!

The landmark hotel looks nice but I never had stayed there.

Pattaya is great too but it is more known for the sheer quantity of ladyboys and Bangkok is more for quality.
