A friend of mine works in law enforcement. The other day she and I were discussing the recent election, and I mentioned that I voted for a libertarian for the second time ever. (The last time I voted for a libertarian was in 2000, and it was for the same person for the same position. Jocelyn Langlois says that, if elected as Lt. Governor of Washington, she would do one and only one thing: lobby our legislature to abolish the office of Lt. Governor and save the state $40K a year.) From here we segued into a discussion of libertarianism in general and I mentioned that I thought all acts between consenting adults should be legal, including prostitution. "I mean, porn movies are legal," I said, "and that's practically the same thing"

"Wait a minute," I said, confused. "That's exactly the same thing. Are they all porn movies in Nevada or The Netherlands or something?"

"I think most of the are made in California," my friend said.

"How does that work?" said I. "I can't legally pay someone to have sex with me, but I can pay someone to have sex with someone else? And film it?"

"You can legally pay someone to have sex with you if you film it," my friend added. "Because, in that instance, you're not paying them for the sex, you're paying them for 'acting.'"

If one is paying the other for "acting", why does there need to be a camera. In the theatre, cameras are not allowed and they do acting there.

I am clear that I am paying for acting most of the time.

Porn is made everywhere.....
At least in Canada prosititution is sort of legal, everything surrounding it is not. Loitering, solicitation, etc.
In Alberta escorts cannot advertise anywhere or work for agencies unless they are licensed and inspected.

A difference between prostitution and porn is the producer must hold legal ID of models or actors and get them to sign legally binding contracts. Then by distributing the porn you are making yourself and the actor/models known to authorites, ON RECORD!!. This means the FBI, tax authorities etc. Simple prosititution is done in private and the participants are not made known to anyone is most cases. If a tree falls in the forest no one hears it unless there is someone there, in case you were wondering.

So now the porn producers and actor/models are now subject to pay taxes and possibly even adhere to labour regulations such as paying unemployment and worker compensation contributions. A lot more complicated and public than a single trick.

Say you are paying someone to perform oral sex on you.
It will cost you 5-10 times more to get them to let you put it on camera.
So realistically you could get 5-10 time more blowjobs from prostitution than from porn for the same $$.

But really sex is traded and sold every which way in our society, actual prostitution or sex for actual cash is cosidered illegal or immoral.
Porn is not the only place where people in power and authority may get sex as a result.
The difference is that in porn the fact that sex will be involved, is known up front.
In other cases it is forced upon people as an option to get what they want.
People get in over their heads without knowing it sometimes.
Sex for a job or position or special consideration (fuck a bouncer to get into a hot club)
Many Wives and girlfriends use sex every day to get what they want.
