  • Removing the transexual stigma.

Wow. I've had a flood of ideas to write about lately so lets start with something that I hope truly brings out some serious convo.

There is a larger portion of the human populous that associate t women with adult entertainment/ sexual objects. We could talk about this issue on end about how its true, false, serious, fun and so on and so forth but this isn't the direction of where this thread is going.

For a long while I was researching about how different societies and cultures look at t women and began to wonder how and why they are treated so one dimensionally. Reasons sprouted like tradition, unwillingness to change etc etc. Now how a t woman or any person wishes to live their life is up to them and should not be dictated by anyone. Agreed? I hope so.

Ok then. That's the end of that. Now to the heart of the matter.

So, how often do we hear about those that are NOT or have NOT in any way been associated in any type of 'adult" oriented career? I began to think and happily found many examples then questioned well......why then should these people not have the accolades and admiration like those of Vaniity or Kimber James and what not. I mean, Vaniity and Kimber in their own right been successful but surely there is more to be contributed to humankind instead of just sex right? Is science , art and finance not just as important too? Let's take a look:

Wendy Carlos ( born Walter Carlos ) Right off the bat when I began thinking about trangendered/t women she was the first name too come up. Arguably one of the more widely known names. I first learned about her from her music. She is a pianist and organist, a pioneer in electronic music and a composer. She is best known for writing the score to the movie "A Clockwork Orange". She had SRS sirgery in 1972 but had conflicts with her music label who insisted in billing and printing her stuff as Walter well after her change.
Shes won awards and is a highly regarded figure in classical music.

Sophie Wilson ( born Roger Wilson ) I learned about her from my university days. She helped in redefining BASIC ( a computer language ) for computers, helped find a way to make videos run more smoothly on computers and then got involved later in life by joining something called Eidos Interactive. Eidos Interacive was a video game company that became Square Enix. The franchise made games like Fear Effect and the very popular Tomb Raider.

Martine Delaney ( born Martin Delaney ) is a human rights activist in Australia. I know of her because she also competed professionally in soccer as Martin and then after here SRS as Martine. For some reason the clearance for her to compete as Martine in soccer was a long one but she was eventually labeled fit to compete. Oh yeah she had her SRS at 45 and began playing soccer at 47. 47! It doesnt matter who you are or where you are from playing soccer at that age is unheard of! I know of her as she has been referenced on occasion on some soccer tourneys.

Now I ask you all . Are there others you can think of that have broke out of the box and have made an impact ? You would be surprised. It will be very interesting to see all sides on this contribute or make an opinion on the matter.

Just good old conversation for the sake of good old conversation.

    Floor is open.

      Mand

Thats really cool. Thanks for the input Mand. Is there any information on the model though? Like birthplace? What birth name was given? Stuff like that. I should mention something that is really surprising though. No one mentioned Nina Arsenault. Now I am somewhat on the fence regarding Nina. I mean I've met her personally and she's a great person but what exactly is she? All right all right all right, before some of you get yourselves all riled up yes I will admit that she is an actress. I know of her degrees in the arts and that shes been on tv, I will accept that. As an activist well, maybe that too as I know she has campaigned before but when fans/followers say she's an artist, dj, model, fitness guru, writer, spokesperson and so on and so forth I literally shake my head in disbelief and somewhat in disappointment too. I will be FAIR....key word is FAIR and say she is multi talented but so are many other people. Example, there are those who are "triple threats" , people who can sing, dance and act but they eventually have a calling to be an instructor or work in film and what not. What exactly would Nina's be?

      Here's someone else I found:

      Candis Cayne

      Abridged from Wikipedia

Cayne, known as Brendan McDaniel prior to her transition, and fraternal twin brother Dylan lived in Maui where their parents taught at a Waldorf school, and the family lived on campus. McDaniel graduated from Maui's Baldwin High School in 1989 and then spent a year in Los Angeles, where she trained as a dancer.

McDaniel moved to New York in the early 1990s, making a name for herself as a choreographer and drag performer. In 1995 Cayne appeared in the related documentary film Wigstock: The Movie, the comedy-drama film Stonewall, and the Universal Studios comedy film To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar, for which she also did choreography. Cayne began transitioning in 1996.

From 2007 to 2008 Cayne played Carmelita Rainer, a trans woman having an affair with married New York Attorney General Patrick Darling (played by William Baldwin), on the ABC prime time drama Dirty Sexy Money. The role makes Cayne the first transgender actor to play a recurring transgender character in prime time.

She is an activist and supports the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation.
