Song of the week: Michie Mee - Don't Wanna Be Your Slave I'm putting this up for 2 reasons. Reason 1 is due to the fact I saw a program devoted to the start and rise of Canadian hip hop which reminded me of this genius. Reason 2 is she's really that bloody good. I remember growing up in suburbia in a rock music driven community where little people listened to the new music of "hip hop". they thought it was a fad...a joke...it was violent thankfully due to some perseverence Michie and others paved the way to make the sound heard. Older folks may not like the whole genre but I assure you she is talented. In todays music biz with all the Britney's and Gaga's and Aguilera's and all that you may argue that yes those ladies can sing but they are NOT musicians nor do they have the raw talent of Michie. Imagine if you will a 16...yes 16 year old girl writing rap songs, going to the USA , meeting big names in the industry, being laughed at and then quickly making believers out of all listeners when "bam" she could write and rhyme anything proposed to her and then...AND THEN sing dancehall or reggae or whatever other style......16 remember. It doesn't end there. She is trained in the classical sense too from what i recall, studied other music forms, adapted and reinvented. There is no competition between her and artists of today. Again I urge that if you don't like this genre at least respect the writing. It's so damned honest.

Next week we'll relive some music and movies from the golden era. We're due i think


Movie: Rocky Took 3 days to write and Stallone won many Oscars and got super stardom shortly thereafter. What can I say. I think its the perfect inspirational and "pick yourself up" movie. No need for further explanation as its been deemed one of the most watched movies of the past millennia.
