I use Avast and back up my data like crazy. I used to work as a computer tech years ago but left the field. It is unbelievably easy to lose your important data in an instant, ie viruses, hard drive crashes, fried computers from a power surge.

      Norton Internet Security.
You need one of the internet security suites now to scan what your viewing online. The last two years of Norton have been really good.

Yeah there have been horror stories put out for years and years now (always by Windows users) that Macs are no longer safe.

Sorry, I don't buy it, I've used nothing but a Mac since the 80s and have never had a problem, and have NEVER used anti-virus software. Being in the graphics industry, just about everyone else I know uses Macs as well and they have never had problems either. I'm sure the odd person here and there have had a problem once in a while ... but it's very very rare.

Windows users? That's a different story altogether. It's an awful lot of grief and expense to go through just to use an operating system that's basically nothing but a bad copy of a Mac.

Just make the switch to the real thing, your headaches will be over.

Many thanks to all replies! My (Mac) friends have no issues while running no type of AV. That's what they tell me, FWIW.
In the mean time, I'm exploring suggestions posted above.

I have tried and owned a MAC. Good for media use as in music and movie production. Thats about it. I don't find any superiority between it or a PC on other levels except what was just mentioned.

As for the infecting of a MAC tell me where you live Locomotion and I'll gladly seed my cousin over to mess up and infect your MAC. How about it? The process is quite easy actually.

Yeah, I'm sure that if you know unix and are intent on fucking it up. Other than that, I'm completely safe and have no worries.

The quickest way to fuck up a Mac is to boot it into Windows and surf the web for a while, something I would never do, as I consider Windows itself as nothing but a big expensive virus.

I've also worked on both Windows machines and Mac ... Macs are very solid and just work. If there's a problem, it's very easy to fix it yourself. Oh, and there's only ONE Mac operating system, updates & fixes are free for years. ... how many versions are there of Windows ... 10? 12? lol

Windows 7 is basically nothing but a huge fix for Vista ... and Micro$oft CHARGED everyone for this fix.

Windows? Well, lets just say it keeps the computer repair boys employed and well paid.

I don't know why you're getting so hell bent on this....LOL. I just mentioned I love Windows 7.... said Mac is better for a few things (mostly media use) ....I admitted to trying both PC and MAC... all I'm saying is MACs are not 100% safe anymore. MAC owners who have never had troubles then great, all power to you but they can garner problems....they can they can....LOL

By the way I got me my Windows 7 for free. In fact I get all my stuff for free.....LOL OK then. Thats that.

lol Actually I'm really not getting all bent over this, rant. The Mac vs Windoze debate has been going on for decades, and I'm sure it will go on for decades to come ... and will unfortunately not end here, tonight, in this forum.

... but it is nice that the world is finally noticing how awesome Apple products really are, something I've know quite well since 1984.

                      Just sayin.

... and with that being said, I'm pretty much DONE with this discussion.

Back to what REALLY matters ... hot chix with dix

Oh poor naive Rants, you just walked into a minefield with the PC vs Mac vs Linux debate. Some of these users love their systems so much that it sometimes borders on mania. I have seen posts by Mac, PC and Linux zealots that make me shake my head. Can't we all get along?

I started off with Commodore 64 in 1985, then Unix at university, PC dos, win 95 - xp, played a little bit with apple and dual boot a Linux/Win XP desktop. Diversity has allowed me to be more open to new ideas in life.

Thats not to say any one person is immune from liking something too much, myself I'm involved in many art groups elsewhere talking about various styles and painters and so on.
