  • Japan... Shaken to it's core. Is 2012 really happening

Just recently, Haiti, Chile, New zealand and the civil unrest going on in some countries you'll never think people would rise up and fight for liberty. Oh well, maybe this world that we know, could actually be nearing to it's end, though I certainly hope not. But if it is, I think I have done everything that made me happy, I made peace with myself, I have forgiven the people who have hurt me before and I have been loving the people who are the most important in my life.

I guess we could not prepare ourselves for any eventuality, as even the most powerful and richest nation in the world cannot really be prepared when big calamities such as earthquakes, tsunami, hurricanes or man made conflicts occured, we just helplessly wait for the outcome and be hopeful that somehow the human beings that we are, our humanity would be enough, so that no matter what the color of our skin, the roots where we came from, religions and beliefs, sexual orientation. We are all inhabitants of this world, whoever holds the power over it would be satisfied that we are all in co-existence with one another to help each other in calamities and disasters and should be grateful that we are given the chance to live in this wonderful world, whoever created it. And, really really live life to the fullest.

......But! I still believe that no matter what happens, even after 2012, life will continue and we move on.

I know most people commiserate with other people's misfortune

It's okay, I know majority of you here commiserate and also affected by this latest calamity in this part of the world where so many people perished and many lives torn apart. I made this thread not to compete and make this a popular one, I didn't even ask anyone in power here to put it up there in the sticky section and you have to believe me, I have never did.

Maybe Admin here or other felt it is a timely subject to be considered as an important matters that we are experiencing in the world right now. And I truly appreciate it and Thanking anyone responsible for this thread being upthere.

I have always refrain myself from expressing my desires to send my thoughts and prayers to the people who are affected in anyway by this earthquake.
Due to some atheist and non-believer members who have no desires to hear anything about God and Religion, and I respected that.

But as a Christian and a Catholic, I hope they would also find it in their humanitarian heart to at least allow me to express it here. I have a half- sister who is now living in Japan with her Japanese husband. And even if we aren't that close, due to familial circumstances in the past, I'm still hoping and praying for her safety, as well as her family.
And yeah! I would like to say, I'm praying for this country and all countries affected by such immense tragedy.

And it doesn't mean that because I belong to a transgendered group and considered as sinner by most and an outcast in society, doesn't mean I don't care, and I can't pray and I can't believe in God (coz, some would say that God doesn't believe in me). Because i do, and I can pray, because that's all I can do, Thoughts and Prayers. (especially for the children affected by it, I love children and it breaks my heart seeing them at such a tender age breaking down).

I thought your thread was great, it was news of the day.
Many times I tried to make a reply but wasn't sure how to say more than you said.

The things that are happening around the world right now are crazy.
Civil unrest in some countries is almost viral.
However they all want to be like westerners mostly.
It is all bonding but it is one step towards us being all the same, only differing by geography and climate.
The one thing that will come out of the unrest is more transgender and womens rights.

Natural disasters are more common now and maybe the world is setting up for a big change in 2012 or later.
The world could blow up tomorrow?

Just wait until the Aliens come.

While I myself don't believe in a divine being, I see no problem with anyone else using faith to get them through trying times.
What disasters like this teach me is that no matter how many ways we differ as humans we all share the same strengths and weaknesses.
We have to put aside our differences and concentrate on the fact that the planet merely allows us to exist, not the other way around.

Feels good to know that they are safe and okay

And on another note; My step-sister communicated thru Facebook that she and her husband are okay and so far still safe, She thanks us for the concerns.

And we told them, that they are welcome to stay here with us, if life becomes unbearable and dangerous to stay there.

                  ...

Japan. Tragic. What the big news now is that nuclear power plant they were trying to prevent from melting down apparently had exploded. It's like Chernobyl except this time thankfully they were somewhat prepared and evacuated people from the area. What I'd like to know now is what they're going to do to contatin the radioactive steam if thats even possible.

I do not see any sign of a happy ending here!

I don't think there is any possibility of conataining that steam, or anything else for that matter, as the building that houses the reactor was apparently blown apart. Steam under extreme high pressure, as this would have been, expands to many times the original volume, and that expansion is what likely caused the explosion in the first place. I am not anticipating any favourable outcomes from the Japanese reactor situation.

I know this does not apply to the Japanese situation but why, why, why, does our provincial government prefer this method of power generation (atomic/nuclear) over hydro-electric generation which is favoured by our Eastern and Western neighbours, Quebec and Manitoba? Waterfalls are free for the taking!

Not entirely free. Just ask the Dene people who lost their land to the Churchill Falls dams. Or those who lived for centuries in the valleys of the Yellow River.
There has to be a more concerted push for viable solar, wind and geothermal energy harnessing. Those sources are indeed free for the taking.

The world needs to learn from all of this.that nuclear power plants are unsafe especially if u are buiding them in countries that are more succeptible to natural disasters. like cobbler and toban mention there are other methods for aquiring energy. But my heart goes out to those poor people in japan.

The problem is not everyone will ever be happy, there are over 100 wind turbines in my area, now anyone living within a half mile says they put out vibration, they can't sleep, they have migranes, most have already looked towards a lawsuit, probly a 100 grand each would make them sleep better .....
