    Just a cycle

I remember when Mulroney was ousted from cabinet .Everyone thought that the PC party would collapse but they came back as the years rolled on. So it will be with the Liberals and Green party. As for the NDP people will soon realize how immensely stupid Layton is.

Of course I voted, although putting an X beside Bob Rae's name probably made my late father spin a few times in his urn.
It's too bad Ignatieff couldn't be as glib as the position called for because he is clearly the most intelligent leader of the bunch.
              He's just not a politician.
The country's loss is UofT's gain I guess.
To all you smug Conservatives I have two words: Mike Harris.
              Remember him?
Harper is cut from the same polyblend cloth.

I think its funny that only about 62 percent of people voted and the conservatives got 40 percent of that 62. That means about 25 percent of people in canada voted for them. So they are in complete control of Canada yet 3/4 people didnt vote for them.

If someone made a party that would get all the people who dont vote, to vote for there party then they could have a majority government of there own.

I think you're wrong here. Harris had the aftermath of Bob Rae to deal with. He had to cut spending like a madman just to get things back to David Peterson levels, and then he went further. Harper has been in power for a number of years already and has his budget more or less under control. He's had to spend a little more than he would have liked to appease the opposition while in minority, but whatever trimming he does now won't hold a candle to the slash and burn Harris imposed on us.

I'm honestly not scared of the man. Not now anyway. The Stephen Harper who was president of the NCC 10 years ago? Wouldn't want him as my PM. But today's Stephen Harper, who enjoys the job of PM and wants to install the CPC as the new 'natural governing party', and so won't do anything stupid, or controversial (read 'too right wing') to upset the huge swath of MOR voters who gave him his majority? He doesn't scare me one bit.

                            Trudeau

There are a fair amount of people who didn't like Trudeau. The main reason was fear of change. I'm sure many will deny that statement but before he came to power our nation was not united , socially passive and stagnant. Some called him and egotistical maniac and an asshole. Good. This man at least had the cojones to get things done.

He's doing his job here with the press. Unscripted. To the point. Showing why he is the leader of the nation yet allowing the press to do their job.

Harper? Chretien? Mulroney? I could question many other politicians over the course of the past 20 years and not find an inkling in any 1 person with any brass to go about things with a "the hell with you all its for the good of the country" approach. Sure some today may state it in one form or another and even try to create an outrageous situation that replicates that defiant attitude just metioned but in reality its all without conviction. No heart behind the heart if that makes any sense.

Nowadays in the political field it seems that the only passion is self indulgence whereas eras ago it was more about moral obligations. Oh well.

At least I know I can still wake up in the morning and have a coffee knowing that Canada by some is still considered an amiable, fair and friendly nation.
