oh for heaven's sake, take a pill. last time he ran, he was terrifying people because of his religious beliefs and now he's being compared to satan.... what makes anyone think that he is going to do something horrible to the canadian political landscape when he is in a MINORITY position. he can't pass a law of any type without getting the blessing of at least one other party and if i know our left leaning leaders, none of them are going to jump on his bandwagon if they are the least bit doubtful of the legislation. i get really tired of listening to people rant about someone like harper and then go vote for the party that stole millions of dollars of OUR money, managed to lose about a billion dollars in the human resources portfolio (gee mr. auditor general we don't know where that billion went) and created a gun registry that ran $2 billion over budget and still isn't finished registering all the damn guns. if the hell's angels had stolen $10,000,000 from the government every police officer in canada would have been alerted. multiply that by 10 and you have the liberal party of canada, and what happened to them, nothing.... i think maybe we have had one suspended sentence so far. and before anyone starts screaming redneck at ME i didn't vote conservative, i voted for the GREEN party! which if more of you had we would have had a much better government platform to admire than the conservatives or the liberals spend happy, don't give a shit about the environment platforms. well that's enough ranting for now, please return to your regularly scheduled lives...

        Thankyou Delta.
I couldn't said it more eloquently myself.
        You echo my sentiments exactly.
A vote for the Liberals, was a vote for corruption.

Shelby, based on many of your posts here, I had developed a healthy sense of respect for you as a generally balanced, intelligent person.  You can now congratulate yourself on destroying that opinion with a single post.

You are either so ignorant as to believe the Liberal spin, or you are one of the fearmongers yourself.  Harper is not satan, and to characterize him thus does a disservice to you, not him.  He won, so what?  The minority house will prevent him from tabling any kind of radical legislation, so to anyone who starts wailing and lamenting a return to the 1920's when women couldn't vote, abortion was illegal, and homosexuals were beaten, I say you're overreacting.  And not just a little bit.  You are like the stereotypical housewife, standing on the chair, screaming at the tiny, harmless mouse on the floor.

Perhaps if the Conservatives had won a majority I might be a little more understanding of these points of view, but Harper won't be able to pass ANY of the radical social policies that frighten all of you so.  Even if he wanted to, which I don't believe he does.  The Liberals opposed same sex marriage in 2000, and suddenly they were ramming the legislation through the house a few years later.  If Paul Martin and the Liberals can change, and mature, and moderate their views, so can Stephen Harper.  So just relax for Christsakes.

And yes... take a freakin' pill.  The sky is still hanging in there, and will for a long time.

Oh, and Dallon, you are one of the most obnoxious, lowbred, unconversant addlepates I have ever encountered, online or elsewhere.  If you aren't happy living in Canada, I'm sure there are many other countries who are short on immature, ignorant jackoffs like you.  Let us know when you get there (wherever that may be) how much better it is than Canada.

First off why have you ASSumed I voted liberal
                Does anyone read !
Where have I ever stated I voted liberal ?
                waiting...................

                I dislike all polititions equally
having said that there is only one party that has always supported transpeople
I voted for the quailty of life for ALL Canadaians, not the quality of political scandals
No party is beyond polictically scandals they are all guilty
                and they will continue,
You only need to reflect on the happenings in the last century
No one should kid themselves that they wont continue. Come on!
Its politics, and more important its big money at stake.

I never attacked anyone personally in my post expressing my feelings, I only bared my own personal heart felt dissapointment.
Now it seems that a woman cannot post such feelings without being singled out and chastised for her personal feelings, and then have misinformation spread as to which party I support.
House wife sounds good to me if that was my wish, though that human right seems so eagerly denied by so many.

                What I know is this

                NDP party jerk themselves off
                Liberal party screw genetic women
PC party screw young boys and transpeople
PQ party disagree so much they cant decide who to screw, though usually its themselves
and the Green party, well I dont even want to guess what theyre screwing

Sure Harper only has a minority goverment. So what has this all proved or done. Wheres the change?
How much more money has been wasted by all this posturing that could have been better spent. It didnt take a rocket scientist to realize there would be another minority goverment. Which party won didn't matter. What we have again is a goverment handcuffed for even more behind the scenes handshaking !

If you knew me even the slightest you'd know I never follow the spin I create it.
If you remove all the consistant things in each party and look at the differences you see what is important.
They all lie, cheat and rip us off. So whats left? Whats left are the things that are important thats what.

This was suppose to be an important election and it was.
The danger is very clear and present.
                I stand by my words.
                Shelby

                  Re: THE FEDERAL ELECTION

The Liberals have been the most earnest in their vilification and demonization of Harper, so yes, I assumed. My apologies for that.

The need for a change in government was blindingly obvious. It's not healthy to have the same party ruling the roost for so long because the perception of invulnerability causes politicians to make self-serving decisions instead of thinking first about their constituents, as we saw several times in the last few years. The Liberals have had their fists up our asses for a long time, and while I know some of you find that concept positively titilating, I for one am glad to be able to sit down normally again. I would have happily supported the NDP had they any realistic chance of forming a government, but that just was not going to happen. Therefore, in order to ensure that the Liberals be held accountable for their corruption, bloat, complacency and ineptitude, Conservative was the only logical choice.

And I still don't understand where the fear comes from. With conservative governments, social issues are largely a red herring. Harper has many other priorities to deal with before he fulfills your predictions and locks every queer and queen in a chastity belt, or throws you all out of the country, or whatever the hell it is you're afraid he might do.

My advice is to come at this with at least a partly open mind, and wait and see what happens. This government will be with us for at least a year. The Conservatives and NDP have more common policies than you might like to admit (Layton has said he's in no hurry to have another election), and the Liberals are currently leaderless and rudderless and will not force an election at least until their party is on the road to recovery. So take a deep breath and do your best to enjoy the ride. You might find that it's not so horrible after all.

                    Re: THE FEDERAL ELECTION

All I wish to add is let's give Stephen Harper a chance; if he does the radical things that some people fear, than he and his party will not last very long. This is what democracy is all about.

He's a young leader, who ran a decent campaign, and brought forth some reasonable policies during the campaign...

                    Just my two cents worth...

                      Re: THE FEDERAL ELECTION

The fear mongering about Harper is quite amazing. Of all of the politicians that have been around over the last 50 years, nearly all have been laywers. And we all know what laywers are good at.

Harper is a family man, an economist, who understands what drives the economy, the dynamics of trade and export, ebbs and flows of business, tax implications and will do a great job to improve this great country of ours. No party is perfect, but Harper got into politics for one reason, to help make a better Canada. Give him a chance and let his records speak for him, before we prejudge him and the Conservatives based on the rhetoric and bullshit that pervades the media. Peace out!

Well, well, well, election is gone and done with and we are all stuck with a Harper-led minority government as polsters have predicted. (Thanks God...) But I wished the NDP have taken at least two more seats from elsewhere to have real bargaining power. Ah well, if they don't agree with each other, elections will be called again anytime soon though I'd like to give this Harper guy the chance to prove his worth. He's not that dumb to ram his radical agenda on the throats of other parties whom he will need the support from otherwise he would just self-destruct.

And heavens won't fall...not just yet. The people have spoken so let's go on with our lives. After weeks of campaigning and door-knocking, I want my drink! Peace out... and CHEERS!
