  • WANTED: Details (INDEPTDetail Please) For Getting Passport.

I`m stupid let`s just face the facts.
I want to know how to get a passport.
I know I have to go to the post office and get the papers.
And I have to go to get a picture taken.

But do I have to contact a lawyer , what identification do you need ( I have no goverment photo id , i have sin number, pei health card, birth registration and birth certifigate) , do you need residence.. etc

Please go into full detail. Because in the summer I want to go to Europe. I want to go to London, Paris, Dublin and Frankfurt.

Its more of a personal trip I want to take, but I will be working at the same time. But I need the passport first. I have no criminal record, because Im a good little girl, so please tell me the details. Because I am sick of talking on the phone and looking on the internet for details that I dont understand or know how to find.

Dita it is very simple actually, I just got mine and the process is easy and fast.

You can get the forms at the post office and this website will lead you through the process
    http://www.ppt.gc.ca/cdn/index.aspx

Just make sure you have original copies of your birth cirtificate and all other documents before you send anything off. Your passport will come to the post office nearest you and you will have to go pick it up it takes about 3 - 4 weeks during the slow periods I got mine in 19 days.

Good luck and have a great trip..............

        Alternatively..

Go to your local Passport office to get the forms..

Take a few minutes to stand in line and talk to the desk clerk about the photos, the fact that you look like a girl but it says "M" on everything for your sex. Ask them if they foresee any issues.. Make sure this is the office you are going to apply at..

Then go get your pictures done, wear minimal makeup that is the same as when you are traveling. Fill out the form and do all the stuff it tells you to do..

Go back to the same office and see a clerk to submit your application..

Everything should be super smooth then..

Personally I'd never mail it or go any other route..

I like things first hand.. not lost in the mail..

I have to change the picture on mine cuz it doesn't look like me at all anymore..

It's about 10 years ago since I first applied but if I remember correctly there were a few things about the process that seemed to be particularly important and which Dita might keep in mind to avoid delays. Cost was $85 and it's good for 5 years.

Having original birth certificates and other documents will avoid difficulty. Photocopies are always suspect.

You must have someone who can verify that they know, and who are willing to testify in writing that all of the photo-documents you have provided are actually of you. The pastor of the church you regularly attend should be the best choice for this or maybe your favourite school teacher would do it for you!

I would imagine a permanent address is necessary but I don't know that for certain.

Actual passports have always been delivered directly to my home by Registered Mail (which must be signed for). The first one took ages to receive but renewals are done quickly.

Just remember that if you do get a passport, that you have no transgender rights in other countries.
Other countries have no obligation to let you in and if you cause trouble to cry foul, they could throw you i jail and throw away the key.

If you act like you do on here, we may never see you again.
We don't want that to happen.

                Have some common sense.

If you're serious about changing your legal sex...

... then I would recommend NOT getting a passport right away. If you do, you'll have to change it again later on, and you're better off doing your passport last, and changing the rest of your ID first.

The first thing you want to do in regards to your legal transition is change your name:

                  http://www.ontario.ca/en/information...ls/119596.html

I'm not sure of the requirements in other provinces, but they're usually pretty similar; wherever your original birth certificate was issued, check that province's requirements for legal name change. It's usually pretty easy, as long as you have a guaranteur, and they don't usually check up on it unless there's some sort of problem. Once you've done that, you can easily change all of your other information to reflect your chosen identity; some credit cards insist on proof of name change, although not all of them - call them and ask if you want to find out which ones to keep.

Then, if you have a driver's license, you should change that next:

                  http://www.mto.gov.on.ca/english/dan...erchange.shtml

You don't need to have any sort of surgery for this; you just need a letter from a doctor stating that the change would be "appropriate" for your situation. My letter was barely two lines long, and wasn't questioned by the MTO when I asked to update my information. It was definitely the easiest piece of ID to update, and since most places accept it as official ID (you can use it for domestic flights without a problem) it's usually enough to avoid hassles. I strongly recommend you update your license first, before anything else.

Next, you need to change your birth certificate, because the passport relies on the gender indicator on your birth certificate; even if you have another piece of ID that says "F" (such as your driver's license), they'll still go with whatever your birth certificate says (which is kind of stupid when you think about it, but that's what the Vital Statistics Act requires). The legal requirement is something referred to as "transsexual surgery", which most people assume means SRS, but technically, any surgical procedure that falls in line with your transsexual identity could qualify. You need a letter from the doctor who performed the surgery, as well as a supporting document from another doctor who has examined you and verifies the surgery has been performed. I was able to change my legal sex after I had my breast augmentation, because the term used in the Vital Statistics Act is rather vague on this point, and the Ministry cannot inquire into your medical history as long as you have the proper documentation.

I can't find the forms online right now, but I'll check my records later on and see where they can be found.

Changing your health card also requires you to change your birth certificate first, but you may want to ask your doctor about that first, depending on what you're planning; certain procedures are only covered by OHIP on a sex-specific basis, and I've heard of people being denied coverage for procedures that are normally performed on members of their birth sex, but aren't covered for others (i.e. trans men being denied coverage for a hysterectomy, because their Health Card had an "M" on it). I've changed my Health Card because I wasn't concerned about this possibility, but it's a very real risk that you might want to consider before you change that particular piece of ID. Anyways, you can do that in person, at any ServiceOntario office, you just give them your new birth certificate and a supporting piece of ID (driver's license) and they'll take a new picture and mail you your new health card in a couple of weeks.

Finally, once you're done with your birth certificate and a supporting piece of ID (driver's license or health card, most likely) then you can go and get your passport, with your proper name and gender on it. If you have the proper documentation, they have to issue it with the proper indicators, no matter what your surgical status may be.

All told, I managed to complete my legal transition (i.e. changing all of my ID to "F" with my new name) in less than two years. The passport was the hardest of them all, but I found a way to get it done, so I don't get have to worry when I travel (except for those body scanners, but I'll be sure to insist on a pat-down in a private area, with a supervisor present, instead of ever going through one of those ridiculous machines... but I never beep when I go through the initial metal detector, so I've never had a problem).

I wrote a column about this, a little more than three years ago, back when I had a full-time gig with tgirlnews; feel free to look it over if you're interested.

                  http://www.tgirlforums.com/yabbse/sh...Identification

Good luck, and be patient - it takes a while to get everything changed, but it's possible to do it without needing SRS first, and it makes life so much easier - and it's so rewarding when your ID finally reflects the person you know yourself to be.

If you want to wait until after you get SRS, you can - the same procedure applies, in that you need a letter from the surgeon, as well as verification from another doctor. But you don't have to wait until you get SRS to get a passport with an "F" on it. You can get one now with an "M" if you want, if you need it urgently, but if you want to get one with your new identity reflected on it, you have to change your other ID first.

My mistake, I thought you were asking about how to change your passport, now I see you just want to get one in the first place. Dunno how I read that wrong... I guess you can ignore my previous post, at least until you're ready to get a new one.

B- Proof of Canadian Citizenship. Your ORIGINAL Birth Cert.
C- Two pieces of Original ID that you must send to them and will be returned to you.
                            C- A Guarantor

                            1. be a Canadian citizen 18 years of age or over;

                            * To know an applicant personally means that the guarantor is able to confirm aspects of the applicant's personal attributes
such as name, approximate age, place of birth, physical description and some personal history such as occupation and
                            place of residence.

I can be your guarantor as I know all that information on you, and pass all three conditions.

Kinda....I haven't know you for two years. Just if they ask me your occupation, I am saying "Cock Sucker".
