    2.54 cm to inch actually.

      Crag,

I was in middle school and secondary school during the rollout of the metric system in Canada during the early seventies. Even at that young age, I had some difficulty switching, not because of understanding the units, but because the language of the imperial system -- miles, gallons, etc., was so ingrained.

I adapted over time, but, like you, I have to use MPG. After all, most folks still call it *mile*age.

Yes, I agree because now they have not only changed from Imperial to Metric units but we are now reporting Volumeage, instead of the former Mileage! This is a different concept altogether! Could you accept a term like Volumeage?

I believe that if they hadn?t also changed the system of calculation at the same time I think it would have been a little easier for most of us to swallow the change in this area. E.g. Formerly we measured distance covered /unit of volume [mpg] but that was changed so now we measure units of volume used/1000 units of distance [l/km].

I honestly think it's daddy issues. The metric system is used by Europe; since we've spent most our existence trying to prove we're better than them it only stands to reason we'd do an irrational thing to stand out. Give us another 100 years until we're out of this rebellious phase and things will be better.

                My 2.54 cents . . .

I think anyone who can find Canada on a map of North America, should convert to the metric system. All others should be used as meat for the rest of us.

I'm British and even though we invented Imperial it's still bollocks and the metric system is more logical lol..

Never understood why a mile is such an imprecise measure of yards (1,700 I think), just because some medieval English king said so haha.. Metric is more logical, and multiples of ten are easier to figure out in one's mind

I was watching Meet the Press yesterday and someone said that the US is the "Leader of the World". If that be the case, shouldn't the rest of the world change to our system? Just asking, LOL.

Some dipshit on TV calling the US "leader of the world" is very typical, & the kind of blind arrogance (disguised as "patriotism") that make so many people outside its borders dislike the US so much.

Freedom of speech is a good thing, unfortunately it does give morons equal time to air their stupidity on TV.

Scary thing is so many Americans believe the garbage these blowhards spew, especially the crap coming from Fox News.

It's all just for the sake of station ratings.
