A thought on news stories.

I've noticed that whenever a BIG news story breaks out that a rash of different threads pop up yet they all seem to talk about the same topic at hand.

i.e.

Canadian shemale shunned at pageant
Pageant shuns transgendered woman
Canadian beauty denied to compete

etc etc

This goes the same as clearly seen now with the events of another Canadian incident but it also spans to other topics such as the death of a celebrity to a political agenda and pretty much anything else the news makes a big deal of. I understand how some people get excited and emotional and want to say their piece on such sensitive subjects as it were but its just a waste of space and frustrating seeing similar threads posted up with little variation of peoples comments.

Wouldnt it make sense and also make it easier if perhaps we had like a Sticky thread or another section on this site that dealt just with news? That way everyones comments could be cenetralized.

I mean if there is an escort section thats divided among regions I am sure having a sticky thread for news wouldnt be difficult to create.

In the recent situation there turns out to be a happy and bitter thread come about for the same news story.

Some forums they would just delete the second thread, because the other person didn't look, to see if the topic already existed.
It is generally considered the responsibility of the poster to ensure they have not duplicated topics.

Many would just automatically merge them into the first one, if caught right away, we sometimes do this.
Maybe the forum also need to be more pro-active in posting this stuff too.
Our manpower is lacking to keep up with this sort of thing.

Hate mixing everything into one thread as some topics deserve their own thread.
However the seed has been sown.

Hey Rants, "you got me", as was said earlier today by a young man in Germany!

I am one such who carelessly posted a duplicate story on Magnotta today. I did it before scanning to see if there already was such a report. I thought I was reporting a new story of especial significance to Toronto members.

I'd delete it if I could but

toban, this isn;t about getting you as this behavior has occured much in the past....the Canadian beauty pageant scandal .....talk of the Stanley Cup ..... the death of Apple's own Mr Jobs....any big story and there are always a handful of threads about it posted by various personalities here. ALl I say is devote one thread or create a new section just geared towards news.

Crag it would just be less hassle for everyone if there was a news section/thread and as people like to talk about whats popular and/or bring things up from the past it wouldn't be so bad to do this. Just like tv news the big story gets talked about for a few days until the next big story comes in . Would work just the same on a news thread.
