General Comments: Taking yet another vacation to Thailand. This time I thought I would take it easy from the Bangkok rat race. I booked a Beach villa on the beautiful island of Koh Chang, Thailand (Elephant Island).
First the island is probably the most gorgeous place i have ever been and this resort was included in that statement. Koh Chang is about a 3-4 hour drive from Bangkok and you take a ferry across from the mainlaind. Unlike most other parts of Thailand the island is very laid back and not so busy, just what i was looking for. We got to the resort and were impressed by the jungle beauty they had incorporated into property. They call the resort eco-friendly, there is fish ponds and every kind of jungle vegetation available. Our villa was very cheap because of the off season and was a fantastic deal. It was right beside the beach, pool and restaurant, easy living for sure.
The villa had 2 single beds which I found strange as this seemed like an ideal romantic location so I would have expected a double bed. However with advance warning they made the beds up as a double.
The villa had pretty much every thing and was surround by garden jungle with a balcony at the front. There was a large shower room and off that was a rear enclosed patio areas that had and outdoor tiled bath tub and an outdoor shower. So cool.
Since it is the start of the rainy season the first 2 days were torrential rainy days, however i thought it was totally cool to be in the jungle with sheets of rain coming down. I even walked the beach in blistering rain, so fun. After a couple days it cleared up and we had sunny skies. I enjoyed the beach, both pools and used the "in pool" bar to drink and swim. Ha ha.
Hung out and ate by the beach and had massages on the beach. One night we went out to the disco in town and stayed up all night, getting back to the resort at 8am. My thai companions suggested we sleep on the beach. After an hour or so of that, i was burned to a crisp and headed inside to sleep, leaving my lady friends out on the beach. We had some great meals at the resort and in town, the seafood was fresh and amazing. There was monkeys and elephants everywhere and it was a wildlife bonanza. The island is actually a Thai National Park so there is only resorts on one side of the island and they are restricted to 3 story buildings or less, this is simlar to rules in places like Banff National park, meant to preserve nature. Over all a great deal and a very relaxing place to vacation, romantic too. I would say this is better than the Mexican type resorts as Thailand and especially this island are so safe in comparision to Mexico, not to mention cheaper for more. The demeanour of the Thai people and the high quality service you get here makes this a wonderful property. Make sure to check it out some day.
