Lost Canadian references?

Ok so I've been bitten by the Lost bug, the TV show .
I was just wondering if anyone noticed the two prominent Canada references. Both the guy's who infiltrated the group(Ethan Rom and Nathan) said they were Canadian. Do you think this means anything? Supposedly the show has alot of hidden references and symbolism.
It's just that you don't normally hear Canada mentioned ever in American shows and never so prominently. OR am I just reading too much into it?

With that show I wouldn't discount anything. Quick question for all the Lost fans out there, do we think Locke, Eko and Desmond are all dead?
