I am currently wrapped up in my favorite blanket with cookies and milk (this means taking a day off too lol). That childhood sugar high is feeding into my paranoia while I'm watching storm reports online :P

Let me know what you are doing to make the day a little less scary and a whole lot safer.
All I can say/write is: welcome to the world of climate change. (They say this is the worst storm to ever hit New York. And, too, most likely the biggest storm we've ever seen. It's estimated to be 700 miles in diameter.)
It's understandable why Obama and Romney didn't talk about global warming... Kidding. But the oil industry is extremely powerful in the United States. It seems highly unlikely that we'll shift to alternative energy sources.
Anyway, more carbon in the atmosphere means more intense weather.

I think it is all getting blown out of proportion by the media, just like everything else now days.

They are giving it names like "Frankenstorm" and sensationalizing it.
They have these fancy weather tracking systems that they need to seem worthwhile.
So they have used all their fancy weather systems to connect a hurricane to a storm in the northeast.
Hurricanes have always tracked into storms up the east coast.

To me there has always been big storms on the East Coast and over the great lakes every fall.
Somewhere is always getting hammered with ice storms, extreme snowfall, high winds or rain all the season.
In fact, living on the great lakes it can whip up at any time.

Evacuations are more standard now days because nobody wants to take the chance of screwing up after Katrina.
Pre-cautions are more likely to be taken, so no one looks like that screw up.

I don't deny some climate change but some people have been watching too many disaster movies.

The crane collapse on 57th st in Manhattan is keeping me rivited to the TV. Every time it swings around my heart stops for a sec. Like bending metal with your hands until it eventually breaks. I don't think it'll stay up there tonite.
The front of a four story residence in the city has collapsed.
All bridges leading into Manhattan now closed. Tunnels are closing.
Mass transit will be shut down for another day, subway tunnels are flooding.

I've lived here all my life. Two major blackouts, snowstorms, this is unbelievable.
They turned off power to lower Manhattan from 14th st down to the financial district,
from river to river. All to prevent catastrophic damage to equipment by saltwater.
The boom of that crane is still dangling/swinging over 60 stories above the street.

                    We don't really know.

You are right, the climate changes all the time.
We have no idea if it is supposed to stay the same or not, we just know what we are used to.

Humans and carbon could have nothing to do with the warming and it could have everything to do with it.
                    We just are not sure.

If there is going to be storms like this people will adapt.
Other areas of the world have to live with yearly typhoons.

                      ...

National news broadcast stated at 10:00 pm EST that the NY City Stock Exchange has 3 feet of water within the compound. Most likely the Stock Exchange will be closed another day or so. A major transformer literally blew up in Manhattan causing many city blocks powerless.

Atlantic City reportedly have some streets flooded with 2 feet of water and expecting more.

Toronto has a few blackouts and the concern is wind gusts which could possibly topple over some structures or trees.

Despite it all though the consensus i am hearing and reading from broadcasters is that yes this is a bad storm but it couldve been much much worse.
