This is completely true, but not in that way. Richard never had points taken away from him. Gordie Howe was awarded points on goals in which he was sitting on the bench.

When you produce players like Richard, Morenz, Beliveau, Lafleur, Robinson, Harvey, Dryden, Roy and Plante, you tend to have strong teams. Crosby will never put up the points the way Wayne did. In his 3rd NHL season Gretzky scored 92 goals and 212 points. If we compare Crosby's stats to Gretzky's you will see a huge difference. Even if we compare Crosby's best career year to Wayne's 3rd season (not his best) there is no way to compare these guys. Wayne dominated the NHL, held the record book under assault his entire career, has more assists than anyone else has points(if he never scored a single goal, he would still be the NHL's all time scorer). But...Crosby has won everything. Wayne never won Olympic gold as a player....and Crosby scored the winning goal.

Greatest is more than Points, look at Orr, and look at Howe's longevity. Greatest is the ability to lift the fans out of their seat, Greatest is people paying to see YOU. Orr changed the way defensemen play the game, and Gretzky is responsible for NHL expansion into the southern belt of the US. His trade to the Kings changed the face of Hockey. Anaheim, San Jose and all the other teams in southern USA should thank Gretzky for the interest he created in that area for their franchises.
