FW:
Egale Canada requests your support for the SRS Postcard Launch on October 1
at Queen's Park in Toronto from 12 Noon - 1 p.m. The rally plans to achieve
three objectives:
1/ October 1, 2004 is the sixth anniversary of the Provincial government's
decision to de-list Sex Reassignment Surgery (SRS) in Ontario. We plan to
commemorate this event from 12 noon to 1 p.m. at Queen's Park.
2/ At the rally, we plan to announce the restarting of the Ontario Human
Rights Tribunal hearings beginning October 4, 2004 to determine whether the
decision by the Ontario government was discriminatory. The hearings will
continue until the Spring.
3/ Finally, Egale plans to launch our SRS Postcard Campaign. The postcard
is currently being designed. On the front the card has "Health Care for
Transsexuals" with "Denied" stamped across. The postcards will be mailed to
Egale and turned over to the Premier during a public event once enough cards
have been collected.
Organizations already supporting the Postcard Campaign are the Canadian
Federation of Students-Ontario (CFS-O), Rainbow Health Network, a Reference
Group of CLGRO (Coalition for Lesbian and Gay Rights Ontario), Canadian
Union of Public Employees (CUPE). Marilyn Churley, Deputy Leader of the
Ontario New Democratic Party will be supporting SRS funding at the Rally.
We will also invite other Provincial parties to comment on public funding
for SRS. We would like to you and your organization to support the growing
coalition in support of health care access for transsexual persons in
Ontario.
Please contact Susan Gapka, [email protected] ,
416-760-2776 for more information or to volunteer to assist in the SRS
Postcard Campaign.
