  • Cyberbullying bill to prohibit sending ?intimate images? without consent

I think they are dreaming if they think they can scrub images off the internet.
How can they prove when you posted, if it was before or after a relationship.
It just seems like a bunch of mumbo jumbo about something stupid.

Young girls committed suicide long before the internet for many reasons.
Why does everything have to be the fault of someone else, why didn't we go after bullies in the past?
This one young girl chose to send her exposed picture to a stranger, and chose to take her own life over something so insignificant in the grand scheme. They do not understand the seriousness of suicide anymore.

I think alot of it has to do with the fact we don't discipline and shelter our children far too much.
Our kids today are sheltered from the realities of life, so something fairly innocent can seem like a tragedy when you have never experienced loss or any kind of problem in your life.
Many parents these days are unable to discipline their children, mainly because you are not allowed anymore.
As a result many kids today have no boundaries and don't understand when they are doing damage to others.

Today everyone is so hard done by, everyone has a medical or mental condition and everyone seems to wear it like a badge of honour. Someone needs to toughen some people up.
If something serious happens like a war or natural disaster, nobody will care if you are Gluten intolerant or someone hurt your feelings for something stupid. You will just die because you are a useless whiner.

I am tired of hearing about bullying, it is a trendy thing and used far too widely.
Assault is being called bullying, just about everything is being called bullying when it is not.

Did our whole society suddenly become a bunch of nerds that gets beat up on the playground every day?
If everyone is so hard done by, how can anyone claim to be worse off than another?

Will we all have to start wearing bubble wrap soon?

Today the meek rule the world, however it a natural order they would all be tossed aside.

The Conservative government has introduced a wide-ranging bill designed to make it illegal to distribute “intimate images” without consent and easier to get such images scrubbed off the Internet.
The proposed law includes tentacles that touch on everything from terrorism and organized crime to stealing cable TV — measures Justice Minister Peter MacKay said are necessary due to the digital nature of the crimes.
“This is the type of crime that really knows no borders,” MacKay said Wednesday as he and Public Safety Minister Steven Blaney announced the legislation.
“Once (an image is) on the Internet, once it’s been uploaded, it has the ability to go viral. We need to also empower the police to have the tools to track and preserve and present information (to the courts).”
If passed, the legislation would also give courts the power to seize computers, cellphones and other devices used in the offence, and to help victims recoup part of the cost of removing the images from the Internet.
It would also compel the spouse of an accused person to testify against the accused in court.

Crag, when you were in Montreal we spoke about the lack of responsibility and lack of common sense the public seems to display...

My Mom emailed me this a while ago...

CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL THE KIDS WHO WERE BORN IN THE 1930's, 1940's, 50's, 60's and 70's !!

First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank while they carried us. They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a tin, and didn't get tested for diabetes. Then after that trauma, our baby cots were covered with bright colored lead-based paints. We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets and when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets, not to mention, the risks we took hitchhiking. As children, we would ride in cars with no seat belts or air bags. Riding in the back of a van - loose - was always great fun. We drank water from the garden hosepipe and NOT from a bottle. We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and NO ONE actually died from this. We ate cakes, white bread and real butter and drank pop with sugar in it, but we weren't overweight because......

    WE WERE ALWAYS OUTSIDE PLAYING!!

We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on. No one was able to reach us all day. And we were O.K. We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then ride down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. After running into the bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem .

We did not have Playstations, Nintendo's, X-boxes, no video games at all, no 99 channels on cable, no video tape movies, no surround sound, no mobile phones, no text messaging, no personal computers, no Internet or Internet chat rooms..........WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them!

We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no lawsuits/legal from these accidents. We played with worms(well most boys did) and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did not live in us forever. Made up games with sticks and tennis balls and although we were told it would happen, we did not poke out any eyes. We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just yelled for them! Local teams had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't had to learn to deal with disappointment. Imagine that!! The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law!

This generation has produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers and inventors ever!

The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas. We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned HOW TO DEAL WITH IT ALL! And YOU are one of them!
    CONGRATULATIONS!

You might want to share this with others who have had the luck to grow up as kids, before the lawyers and the government regulated our lives for our own good and while you are at it, forward it to your kids so they will know how brave their parents were.
Kind of makes you want to run through the house with scissors, doesn't it?!

Well in that world this girl would have showed her titties to some guy that she was making out behind the High School,
instead of being on the internet showing her titties to someone she doesn't even know.

Tell Me Another Story Grandma and Grandpa!

"Why when I was your age I woke up 2 hrs before I went to sleep to go out and feed the chickens, milk the cows, and clean the barn. Then I had to collect the eggs and make breakfast before Pa woke up and gave me an ass whooping for being lazy!! Then I had to take my 5 younger brothers and sisters to school. We walked barefoot in the snow 3 miles ..uphill....." LOL. Every generation faces its own unique challenges based on the times and technology. We can't undo what technology has done. Kids aren't going to go build go-carts out of scrap wood or play on the swings at the playground when they have real life 3D graphic X-Box, PS games that simulate everything imaginable and they are playing with and talking to other friends & players via their headsets around the world! Kids are definitely spoiled, coddled, bubble-wrapped, lazy , etc etc. So are we ..we have more technology and convenience to make our lives easy and yet we still complain about our hardships, get depressed over stupid shit, think we are hard done by even though we have one of the best standards of living in the world! It's human nature to take for granted what we have. As for bullying well guess the only difference now is that it doesn't end in the school playground ..it continues 24/7 via texts, FB posts, etc. And if you get beat up on the playground it's posted on Youtube for millions of strangers to view our humiliation and comment what a pansy we were! Doesn't justify suicide and I guess parents need to supervise their kid's cellphones and internet use, easier said than done fore sure!

You touch on a very very good point here. Txt, FB, Twitter etc have all given bullies the tools to follow and harass their victims.

But people don't have to take so seriously.
What is streaming on facebook is not real life it is pictures and comments of real life.

Trying to legislate against peoples hurt feeling is not the best approach.
Some of those school yard bullies turned out to be great people after they learned, and they did.
These bullies eventually get put in their place at some level, university or just life.

So basically you can't be mean to anyone anymore or they will run to the police.
Then you will go to jail for being a big bully and hurting someones feelings.
You had no idea they were sheltered to the point that they cannot take any source of meanness.

The fact is there was less bullies when parents had control of kids, now parents are just guardians with little control.

Everyone is depressed, everyone has a medical condition, everyone has ups and downs, everyone loses, everyone has bad things happen. Deal with it.

I some traumatic world event happens is everyone going to curl up in a ball and try to call their shrink?

Not really reinventing the wheel here

Cave men used a stick. Our kids use technology, and everything else in between those times. The only good thing about the the playground bully is that the victim actually had a chance to stand up to the bully. I saw this lots growing up and most of the time, the bully got his or her ass kicked. The bullying miraculously stopped. Cyber bullying should be defined as absolute cowardice. All bark no bite, fucking cowards. Oh don't forget Shyla, the nice soft concrete landing pad under the monkey bars.lol

What about the painted cement around public swimming pools?

What you say is true. Cyber bullies are cowards. I had one this one excuse from PEI that would constantly txt me at all hours calling me names, ripping me on twitter and Facebook. I took everything to my lawyer got a police report and had it's twitter shutdown and charges laid.

Like you said, the good thing about the old days is that the victim could stand up to the bully. The funny thing about my situation, is that I am not scared of this person nor do the words that come out of it's mouth mean anything to me. But my bully knows this....so it can hide behind a computer and calling me names as I am like water regarding this. But unfortunately for that person, my bite is much worse than my bark, as I have no problem standing up to bullies.

BTW: There were charges laid on this person under the Criminal Code of Canada:
                Section 264 Criminal Harassment
                Section 298 Defamatory Libel
                and Section 430 Mischief.

If the charge for Defamation produces a conviction, at that point I will also have evidence for a civil suit in which I can seek damages to my business.

                  Solutions?

The government should just keep their noses out of this, there is no law, no bill, nothing that will stop bullying. Maybe a committee, or how about another useless task force that just gives another excuse to employ someone. Five years later they come back with their 500 page report that might as well be written in Swahili! The best way is for parents to monitor and communicate with their kids about their online activities and life in general. Problem with that though is we as parents also have our heads stuck in our own electronic devices as well and the art of actually speaking and reading body language is disappearing fast. So we are all guilty, hell, some nights you could hear a pin drop in my house as everyone is engrossed in their iPods, laptops, etc. I do make the conscience effort to check in with my 14 year old son's online activity. No bullying so to speak, but I did find an interesting search... Girls with penises!! Oh boy, how to tackle that?? Uh do as I say not as I do. Lol

Parents cannot control their children through traditional methods.
Yelling and spanking is out because someone will call the cops if you try to discipline your kids.

If your kids misbehave the only route is to drug them.
So the pharmaceutical industry has it made, they are trying to provide an alternative to discipline, which is drugs.

Everyone thinks the key to depression is drugs, the key to everything is drugs.
So do think it is ok just to drug your children so life is easier for you?
Do you think it is ok for society to tell you how you can raise your children.

We are raising a society of drugged out, politically correct, self indulged people.
A large number of adults are on phycotics as well as a large portion of children.

People are now taking Ritalin their entire lives?
                        This just is not natural.

Our society is just becoming a joke being controlled the Big Drug companies.
They are the main ones that have kept Marijuana down all these years because they cannot patent it.
In fact, Pot is known to be a great natural treatment for many mental issues.

But no, if you smoke this illegal plant, you will get arrested.
If you take some crazy pill that the drug companies say is good for you, now that is legal?

What a joke we have become.

If we were like this 70 years ago the Nazi's and Japanese would rule the world and we would all be their slaves.

Mommy, the Nazi's are hurting my feelings.....

All true for sure, but how did it come to all of this? That is the question. I know a little off the initial topic but oh well. I blame the parents of today, I've even caught myself saying that I'm not putting my kids through what I had to go through growing up. We were forced to work on a Saturday morning no matter what time we got home the night before. We were brought up to respect our elders and to treat people with dignity. And as Shyla mentioned we had to go out and make friends because there wasn't anything inside to do other than help mom clean, thus giving us the social skills to live in society.

Multinational corporations and good old fashioned greed are also to blame. The shit they pump our food with today is the reason why everyone has some sort of illness so to speak, then we see the doctor and he gives us pills, just one giant circle of money and the CEO's could care less about our health. As a matter of fact, they're hoping the whole world has something their medication can treat or so we're meant to believe. All a smokescreen for the almighty dollar.

It's pathetic what we've done and I just cringe at the thought of what the next generation will be like. If we haven't done ourselves in by then.

I look at how everything has played out and tell myself on occasion that though they lost the battle, the Japanese are most definitely winning the war!

It would be far more healthy for parents to give their children weed instead of these pharmaceutical drugs.
The pills change you forever when most of the time there is nothing wrong with you.

Most everything now days is controlled by the drug companies so they can sell product.

I have no idea who thinks it is a good idea not to spank your children.
Sure don't beat them but some pain reinforcement is natural.
Every other animal does it to teach their young, except us because we think we are better than animals.

We are all fucking hairy animals, I am sorry to say.
Some stupid pills are not going to fix that.

This one young girl chose to send her exposed picture to a stranger, and chose to take her own life over something so insignificant in the grand scheme. They do not understand the seriousness of suicide anymore.....

Getting back to this point is probably more the key then legislating every possible "cause" for someone to become depressed enough and in despair to take their own life. People all around the world lose everything they have and their loved ones in wars, natural disasters, epidemics, etc. People survive concentration camps and intolerable oppression, and while the odd thought of ending their suffering through suicide may cross many people's minds the human instinct and will to survive usually keeps them going. The real question may be in understanding why some people's emotional, mental makeup is so fragile that they so easily turn to suicide over things that most people would find unpleasant but also a part of life. For example everyone goes through break ups in teenage romances, it's part of life and growing up. But for a certain percentage it's enough of a trigger for suicide, as in this case bullying and public humiliation.
