      Sorry I'm late

I have not been on here for a bit. Congrats on working on quitting Heidi.

I quit smoking 22 years ago, and what amazed me most was that within one day, you can be a non-smoker. And then do it again the next day. The old "One Day at a Time" being taught all over the world in 12 step programs can really come into play here. I went for acupuncture and I don't think it did a thing, other than cost me $25.00 and at the time that was a carton of cigarettes. So I said no matter what I am going a week. It was one week of hell, and I just kept going. To be honest, I can't even remember smoking. I see the hold it has on people and it freaks me out. The smell, the toxic crap in my body. The awareness out there today of how bad it is for you, I'm amazed so many young people still do it. There is nothing Cool about it. There never was. I can't believe I used to think I enjoyed having poisonous smoke going into my lungs and exhaling it. How could that not damage your body. It disgusts me that our governments will ban advertising, make vendors hide it, but won't shut it down. Lobbyists for big business are very powerful.

My advice is the NIKE slogan. JUST DO IT. There will be hard days, but I really only found the first 2 weeks to be really difficult. Two weeks of hell for a happier, healthier longer life.

I made a hard copy list of reasons why I was going to quit. Left copies all over my apartment. Lots of cut celery and carrots in the fridge for to keep something in my finger/hand. And yes, keep busy. I was 2 years clean and sober before I did it, so I did not have the luxury of smoking weed, but I bet you'll quit that too. I'm coming up to 24 years clean and sober, and the death of Philip Seymour Hoffman is an eye opener. He was 23 years clean and sober when he started again. Not sure what could send him back out after that much time, but it could happen to anyone, if they let it.

Getting into fitness is great. My new vices became fitness, sobriety and fucking. I worked out 5 or 6 times a week, and in the first year, I had gained 10 unwanted pounds, and lost it in the same year. Most peoples bodies do react and weight gain is common, but not permanent with some effort. Watch the nibbling. Find a healthy low calorie grab and go food. Carrots, celery etc.

I love the advice Babe is giving you, and talking about wanting to smoke too often will likely lead to justifying having, "just one". Like that commercial, not really any such thing as a part time smoker. you either are or you aren't.

CHOOSE DAILY TO BE A NON-SMOKER. Soon enough, it will be very easy.

      GOOD LUCK,

      Love you Heidi.

It took me two tries to quit, that was about 12-13 years ago. I'm glad I did, you feel so much better when you aren't filling your lungs with smoke. It took me a good 3 months of not going out to drink with friends though. I pretty much had to cut myself off from everyone I knew that smoked, it was rough. I found out what a bear must feel like while hibernating LOL
It was terrible but it worked!

And you're right about the habit part of it. Sure you're gonna have a slip here and there, but you can and will do it. It just makes sense. Keep it up.
I wanted to quit, and now I'm smoke free for 3 days. Champix was just my little helper for aid. Highly recommend it!

Just because I'm not on the forum everyday like I used to be back in the day doesn't mean its bad news.

You feel AMAZING! I can taste, smell, etc. Breathing is taking a while but I didn't expect for that to come back over night. I had a glass of wine a couple nights ago and I tasted it and I was like dammit. It was all crisp and sweet and I have had that exact wine before and having the different taste in my mouth was huge. Same with last night eating chips and actually tasting flavour instead of eating the whole bad looking for the flavour at the bottom of the bag lol.

It's been a success and I want to thank-you all for your love and support.

            Thanks again!

The face of a soon to be completely a non-smoker. Except weed I won't quit weed it take's my aniexty away and makes me live daily haha.

                More advice.

                You're welcome, sweety.

Just keep that positive frame of mind about not smoking permanently fixed in your opinion.

NEVER allow your mind to trick you into thinking that you deserve a cigarette as a reward for not smoking. The mind tries that.
As soon as you smoke one cigarette, you're still a smoker.

If any one of your friends offers you a cigarette to test you, get angry with them to discourage that "bad friend" behavior.

Start being active, now, with jogging or swimming, or buy a stationary bike and work your lungs to help get them back into shape. Then, you will really feel the benefits of what you've done, and THAT will triple your satisfaction of finally quitting the disgusting tobacco addiction.

Never let other smokers influence you, even by smoking in front of you, to start again for ANY reason. It's just DUMB to smoke!

Start smoking your weed with a small, personal pipe so you can avoid smoking too much, and also to avoid using tobacco as you might in a joint.
Also, do not smoke a joint with any tobacco in it. Refuse it!

We only need about two or three tokes to feel a buzz, and we'll normally feel a buzz within the first 30 seconds.
People roll joints and smoke the whole thing even though they felt high even before half the joint was smoked. That's a waste. It's drug abuse, actually.
You'll save more money if you can cut back, and in time, you'll decrease your THC intake and the day will come when two tokes will have you stoned for the whole night.

And remember, pot, like cigarettes, also contains tar, actually more tar than cigarettes contain, which can damage your health. So start cutting back on the pot.

How did your mother and boyfriend do? Did they quit, also?

It's good what you've done but you are still NOT out of the woods, yet, cutie pie.
Get active - feel the rewards of not smoking.

Activity will decrease your chances of gaining weight if you start over eating.

                Babe,
                xoxo
