  • Sochi Olympics, Superbowl, Boston Marathon....

So in the increasingly hostile terrorist threat environment of today's world. Where various terrorist groups are looking to "score points" and make statements by attacking innocent civilians at high profile events like Superbowl, major marathons, and international sporting events like the Sochi Olympics.

Even if you had the opportunity to attend such events would you? Do you prefer the safety and comfort of your living room or favourite sports bar with big screen TVs to enjoy watching such events? Or do you prefer to be a part of the excitement and being able to say "I was there when....!" inspite of the potential risks? Do you live your life with the "Better safe than sorry" motto or "Carpe diem! You only live once! "motto?

    Would I Go?

Answer is....yes I would go. After the Olympics the world hockey tournament is being held in Belarus in April. This again is the NHL Players playing for their home countries.

Belarus signed up alliance with Russia. Could the World Hockey Tournament be another possible target? I might be going to Belarus to watch some hockey...stay with friends. If I don't go it won't be because I'm afraid of terrorism, although I'm sure it'll be on my mind. If I don't go it's because I'm planning on going to Ukraine, Poland, France and Russia in July.

    We can't live in fear.

I used to attend football/soccer matches all the time, and never had any issues. Though to be fair, this was after hooliganism had ended in a large way in England.

The Winter Olympics doesn't interest me to be honest (neither the summer ones, largely sports I don't give a shit about) but then I think the World Cup is generally safe. England would do shit it in it, but I don't care we have few if any world class players anyhow lol. (I think Germany or Spain will win it incidentally).

For me it's more that I don't like wading through large crowds for any event so I always prefer to watch a sporting event at home, at family or friends or at a sports bar. But even if I wanted to visit parts of the world with high terrorist activity I wouldn't for that reason. I will stick to the other many dozens of safer places that I have not yet visited or seen.

I was at Super Bowl last year and at a Euro Semi Final between Portugal and Spain in 2012. There is no way I would let fear stop me. There are people paid to prevent things like this. Let them do their job so the rest of us can enjoy our lives.

Kaboom! Where's my leg? No thanks.

There have been far too many black-flag operations in history for me to ignore threats, and walk right into a place like that.
I don't like overly crowded places, in the first place.

I do like all Olympic events much more than any national sports like hockey, football or whatever, but i much prefer the close-ups and instant replays on television while sitting on my sofa in the comfort of my own home, eating snacks that i've prepared myself.

There're just too many nut-cases in the world bombing innocent people up for me to be pay big bucks to be one of the victims.

If anyone is brave enough to walk in to a possible terrorist attack zone, be prepared for what could happen.
It would have to be an event that i would be willing to die for and there are not many i would be willing to die for.
I have a 5.1 surround sound system on my televison, so if i want to "feel" (sort of) like i am there, i can crank up the volume as i lay back with my feet up.
When you go to these huge events, you end up watching it all on the jumbo screens anyway.

All it takes is a split second, and kaboom, a part of your body is blown off if you happen to be sitting beside the nut with bombs strappped to him or herself.
I was watching the Boston Marathon attack clips on youtube and i shuddered to think if i had been there beside the bomber person.

Am i a coward? Not really.
Am i cautious? I would say, quite.

            Babe,
