Odd. Just a quick look brings up a number of reports about how life is hell for the hijras, and how they're seen as a nuisance. I feel that this video may be glorifying things a bit.

        Hijras at weddings

Yea, I have to agree with miss bell. I was discussing hijras in a theory class on post-colonialism and there are far too many articles and reports on the type of living conitions this group of people have to live with. The video is rather nice but does seem to glorify things. One of my colleagues, who is originally from Delhi says that the Hijras often go into weddings for money under the threat that they will life up their dresses and show everyone what they have underneath. In fact, as I understand it, Hijras are not just 'trans*' but also include anyone whose genitals do not seem to be regular or normal. There are many sad things that happen to these people.

In terms of other cultures and transgenderism, I've always been fascinated with the idea of the "two-spirited". Also, how accepted it is in Thailand (obviously) and in other Asian nations.. it is rather fascinating.
