    My last post

To Mugsammy and Locomotion (and to a much lesser extent to miss Jane). This will be my last post. There's none so deaf as those that will not hear. You want to be right, what can I do? I just wanted to tell you, with respect, that your posts are the expression of ethnocentric sentiments. But I guess I am asking you too much to recognize that. Bad faith? Ignorance? A bit of both? Anyway it seems useless to me to continue this discussion.

I for one read your points with an open mind. I'm a thinking man capable of discerning your "beliefs", taking from it what I believe to be valid points, developing my own opinions, furthering my "informal" education from discussion. From it perhaps I'm a little bit wiser and a better person for it.

You refuse to see or do not want to see what I'm saying in my previous posts. I'm not talking of my personal beliefs. I talk only from personal experiences. I even backup my experiences with examples. I'll share a few more examples.

My sister in law and her family have lived in Germany for 14 years. She is English from Alberta, husband is French from Quebec. Of course they also have traveled extensively thru Europe. They have spent plenty of time in France. He and not only he, has told me of how French speaking from France do not like so much the Canadian French. Well, maybe outside of Charles de Gaulle who seemed to have liked them very much!

Some History...Canada used to have two large military bases in Germany with French battalions/regiments and squadrons. So, lots of Canadians both English and French in Europe. Although informal, usually over a few drinks, I'm told stories thru "their" personal experiences. From all (and that means from all that "I" have spoken to), the explanation as to why it's like this seems to be mutual...French Canadians seem to think that people from France accept them with open arms as their long lost brother or sister. Not so, as the France French could care less. But they can pick the Canadians out because of the accents and Canadian "bastardized" French. Again, not "my" words. Sometimes they can't even understand the Canadians! My in laws noticed very quickly how she received better treatment then her French speaking husband. But only in France, not so in Germany, Switzerland, Austria or any of the other countries...only in France.

In the meantime Americans tourists abroad still wear Canadian flags on their backpacks and lapels. Without explanation, we all know why.

Often times it's not about education, formal or otherwise. It's not about fact, fiction, true or false. It's about people's opinions, generalizations, perceptions and what people believe to be factual. Information is absorbed differently, individually sometimes and nothing can change that.

You obviously place yourself on a higher level then myself or Locomotion because of your beliefs and "formal" education. I ask you then...what of war monger Presidents and Prime Ministers who have formal education? Wars, starvation and slaughter because of race or religion most often perpetrated by persons with "formal" educations? Usually to protect their own assets or to steal from others, usually the poor. Formal education doesn't always change how the brain is thinking...sometimes it only empowers!

Ask Ukrainians how they feel about Russia and Russians! Russians who "believe" they are superior!

I will say again...and for the last time...I'm only relaying stories from experiences...not my beliefs.

IPSO: There is none so deaf as those who will not hear! Don't just hear it...THINK ABOUT IT!

It"s no use, Mugsammy. No matter how much we try to explain our thoughts of different cultures based on personal experiences, there will always be those who go through life with their head up their ass refusing to accept reality.

Or or perhaps ipsofacto is just another internet troll sitting behind his computer trying to stir up some shit for attention by pretending to be outraged over nothing.

In the case of the latter, please don't feed the trolls!

Or does it indicate that you refuse to see what's the truth even tho it's right in your face?!

            A joke for you...

The teacher stands in front of the class and says "ok kids, anyone who thinks they're stupid please stand up!" After a few moments only little Johnny stands up.

The teacher asks "Johnny, do you think you're stupid?"

Johnny answers "no ma'am, I just hate seeing you stand there by yourself."

              Why why why!!

I just read this thread through one last time and it makes me wonder...why must they become soooo f---in' bloody serious!!??

If the subj had been..."why do the Irish think it's a sign of masculinity to swear so much f---in' when looking for f---in' date?" I would have roared with laughter!

Guess I'm better at accepting the truth...I guess...who f---in' knows!?

I know what ya mean. Nice thread going with intelligent discussion regarding cultural habits ... and some troll comes in throwing a tantrum, holding up the racism card. Happens every time. Talking about different cultural habits is not generalization or racism. It's just the way things are.

Every culture has its general habits. Lots of them are based on BS. Most are taught down from generation to generation.

If you feed someone BS from cradle to grave, they believe it as the absolute truth i.e. this is where terrorism comes from.

Getting back to the original topic, yes, absolutely! There are certain (not all) French-Canadians who seem to think that they are more privileged than the rest of us, living in their own little fantasy world ... as taught by their elders.
