  • Am I the only Metal Bitch left !

Since I'm so retro I thought I'd start a new thread regarding "Pre 90's" Heavy Metal and rock music.
I cannot tell you how difficult it is for me to go to clubs and be bombarded by senseless never ending "club music"
I just dont get it. You stand around listening to music you never heard of. In a bizarre attempt to get into a party mood you try and be a good sport and bop around abit in vain only to become insanely bored. Surely I can't be the only one.
Being a musician I never sold out and will never tire of "plugging into Marshall amps and riding the lightning - Dee Snyder."
It was great watching recently on Much Music "the history of Metal"
I want to party, I want to dance after a week at work , but most of all - I WANT TO ROCK !

For those about to ROCK, we salute you.

hey Shelby...Rock On... I'm with you on this one...all the way...

For some reason I love you even more after reading this thread...

If you would see my DVD collection of live rock shows of the 70's and 80's not to mention my 600+ CD collection of classic rock and hard rock...

I make it a point that the day we meet up Shelby, it will be at Healey's...probably the only place left to ROCK ON

Peace babe and I want to meet you so much more now!!!

    ...
    Rock is dead, they say,
Long live rock, long live rock, long live rock.

Long live rock, long live rock, long live rock,
Long live rock, long live rock, long live rock.

Long live rock, I need it every night,
Long live rock, come on and join the line,
Long live rock, be it dead or alive.

Re: Am I the only Metal Bitch left !

I was talking to some friends the other night over a few beers and the subject turned to strangest concerts.
I think I've got almost everybody beat in that during the Seventies around Boston, Aerosmith played constantly.
I got to see them multiple times.
But the most memorable was when they were the opening act for Sha-Na-Na.
      Beat that?

      DasH

Damn Shelby I could be fallin in love.

PERMANENT VACATION TOUR 87 / 88' (They were coming back after not doing much in the previous years)
Montreal Canada, In the Montreal forum, where used to accomomodate more than 14000 people for rock concert, only 3000 people attended the show, I was one of them. Let me tell you Shelby, after the 2 first songs, when Steven Tyler used the microphone to address the public, he said: " There might not be many of you guys out there but one think I do know, is that all of you are die-hard fans so let's make it a big party and have some fun together..." or it went something like that... It was an awesome party, they even let people in the front rows to get up on stage with them...

A night to remember in my long list of rock concerts I attended...

                      Cheers babe

Re: Am I the only Metal Bitch left !

I think it just may be that you're hanging in the wrong clubs, then? That aside, though, it seems kinda weird that a musician could be so devoid of rythm that they could only dance to tunes they know by rote. Don't get me wrong, I grew up on the same stuff you did, wore out too many Iron Maiden cassettes, amassed far too many Motorhead t-shirts, etc., but this is now the 21st century and one of the wonderful things about it is the amazing variety of music we have access to. I find it both fascinating and exciting how talented artists (as opposed to three-note guitar players) are able to blend styles and themes from all cultures in a constant effort to push the envelope, to make music that reflects both the past and the future of the human experience. Sure, I still occasionally listen to some musty oldies in moments of nostalgia, but it's a case 'ya, I already have that t-shirt' to my mind. There's nothing new to appreciate there, nothing new to inspire..
I'm in a 'party mood' long before I get to a club, there's no 'attempt' required to reach that plateau, whatever kind of music is thumping. If you identify yourself as a rocker chick, so be it. If you saw me in person you'd likely label me some kinda goth or something, but that wouldn't stop me from dancing my ass off in a country and western bar if my friends hauled me off to one, even though I'd sure as hell never buy a album by Garth or Kenny or Billy Joe Whoever. Try to learn to appreciate the myriad flavours this great big world offers, and make your own party wherever you may be!

                            Blessed Be
                            Rave

                              Raven;
Actually I do know of you from torgoth & wildside chat days and what not, and yes you look pretty goth. Theres all kinds of people so thats kewl.
I started hanging around Savage Garden and the Reverb but quickly found out Queen West just wasn't for me, but to each their own.
I listen to everything from goth/bdsm music/poety to Classical, Jazz, Blues, Gospel, Folk, C&W, 50's R&R, MOR, Prog rock etc.
As a musician Ive listen to just about everything out there, but there is nothing to compare to music that took the best from the past and has influenced music since and for years to come.
"Old school - Rock & Heavy Metal"
It is in my blood for life and after giving everything a chance to stand up and compare all have faultered with exception to opera & classical music.
Since the advant of CD's all music has been disposable and yes I still adore my LP's and 45's.
The reason being is that the music business does not develop artists as they once had. Allowing them to build and hone their skills as song writers. Most bands typically get one chance. If the make a hit they get another, if they dont "poof" one hit wonders. Aside from that it is a extreme rareity that you can even sit and listen to a bands entire CD. Most filled with complete rubbish.
Since the advant of digital instruments the art of playing a instrument with any kind of feeling or finess in the general music scene has been lost.
Give me a piece of wood with 6 strings on it and forget the computer. Thats creativity, not just some series of x's and o's compiled by a robotic sequencer devoid of any thing human ( other then the data input ).
Im sure many will disagree with what I have just said, but I started this thread "Am I the only metal bitch left" and it is obvious the answer is YES. I take great delight in this cuz I know what comes around goes around. I'm watching and its obvious it's coming around
I never sold out and never will.
                              I'll never be a lemming.
You either get it or you don't
                              Let there be rock !

So shall it be written, so shall it be done.
                              Amen

Ya right these guys only played 3 notes .................

Just say NO to digital music
