I agree. It's important to some for the reasons you mention...especially the "what others will think" part. That's what fuels denial about sexuality. Look at the Syria refugee crisis...LGBT are on the first priority list after women, children and families but before single men, for their safety. There's a reason for denial, keeping secrets. Otherwise it wouldn't be important and there would probably be more relationships in the open between men and transgender. As for the labels...I feel that someone came up with "labels" towards sexuality to create fear...and it worked.
