  • What will happen to reviews

Well, in just a short period of time we will all be considered criminals if we want to hire an escort for sex. As such, the government needs people to fear the consequences, and will likely be looking to trot as many arrests out there as they can in the first few months. Of course, this call all be avoided by seeing girls we all know and trust and have reputations. The police may do stings using the various escort sites so I think we will all be smart enough to stay way from some ad on backpages from a girl "traveling" that we have never seen before. Although, they will probably focus very little or no effort on the TS market as it is relatively small.

This will probably die down after a few months when police get tired of wasting their time, and there will likely be court challenges.

However, where does that lead reviews. Any of us with a review history have already put on record that we have partaken in this in the past (tied with emails or ip addresses). Will people be unwilling to put up reviews, will there be "this is my fantasy" disclaimers?

I am curious how people feel reviews should be approached going forward.

very little has actually changed.. The changes of Bill c-36 will not come into effect until 2015..

As soon as someone is charged under the new unconstitutional laws it will be beat down in court and the changes made by our bible thumping Prime Minister will be no more..

Prostitution has never been illegal in Canada and it never will be.. it is against our constitutional rights and freedoms..

This is nothing more than Harpo thumping his out dated christian bible at us..

I know the reviews on my website will remain and new ones will continue to be added.. It's doubtful that review boards will make any changes at all..

Also the majority of us do not host our websites in Canada.. It's not like Mr. Harpo can turn off the internet..

Well, thanks for answering that that really wasn't what I was going for. I was more curious as to whether guys will still be posting reviews or will be too afraid to post anything that traces back to them. A constitutional challenge takes a long time and some dude who is worried about an arrest when he has a family and such might not feel solace, that he will be vindicated with the law being struck down, while he is facing his wife in divorce court

Just was throwing it out there for thoughts; not on the legality of the bill itself, but what actually will transpire in the next few months in a practical sense around here or the big GG review boards.

I am perfectly relaxed. Why would you mock my questions? This isn't a debate about the merits of the bill ,it is my wondering how men will handle this and if they will stop posting reviews out of perceived concern.

Yikes, why on earth do I even bother.

You post a review under a fake name about and escort with a fake name.
I just don't really see the risk.

Prostitution has been completely illegal for years in the USA, yet they still tend to mostly bust the street types.
They do stings on some sites like Craigslist and backpage but something like Eros or Shemale canada they would never get away with it.

The police here are mainly worried about underage girls, human trafficking and street workers.
The stings are usually the cops booking the girls to check their ages and stuff.

Even if the bill passes it will never hold true.
Police always wait until laws are established rather than run out and enforce them immediately.

Lots of places today will throw you in jail or take your car for visiting street prostitutes.
For the most part in Canada what happens behind closed doors between consenting adults is ok.
As long as it does not infringe on anyones rights.

For the benefit of all, I say we must continue post reviews!!

I can agree fully with Crag's point of view on this. After this legislation becomes legal I can not see it being used for much other than attempting to deal with street level operations much the same as is being done currently or maybe in their foolish attempts to regulate or prohibit advertising.

The new legislation contains nothing concerning written comments (reviews) of interactions with prostitutes. Even if the government wanted to get that low, the difficulties in trying to trace back to an individual?s personal email from a review post on some site such as this, and to then prove that it was that individual who had actually made the post in question, and furthermore, to then prove that he, in fact, had in person, broken the law by communicating with the escort mentioned in that review would be horrendously difficult and expensive in both dollars and time, if not impossible for them to verify.

I would definitely not be concerned about writing and posting reviews. Please keep 'em coming!

Let's look at it this way. Do our police forces have the budget to enforce these laws? Is there going to be a special unit to address these crimes? The answer to question number 1 is no and by default there is no budget for any special unit/task force.

High end hookers are visited by high end clients. Let me tell you something, when the government arrests someone and ruins their life over this, and costs someone their marriage, their kids and their job....they will fight back with there lawyers. The government gave us a powerful ally....clients with power and money.
Therefore, when one of Harpers cabinet ministers are nailed for seeing a hooker...let the
                    hipocrisy begin.

The government and law makers really need to lose their control over people. Shouldnt adults be allowed to make their own decisions? Ok they make decisions for minors but a 30 year old Ok they don't believe in paying for a sexual service but we do so fuck off. On top of that the law makers make it legal for women to marry a man or just live with a man as common law where she can take HALF of what he owns. Yep they approve of a law where women can legally commit the most "f you over act" of betrayal onto a man where she lives with him and gives him her vagina for 1 year but in return he must hand over his house and half earnigs when she leaves in 12 months and this is legal but paying a fair price per service may become illegal or illegal for the client? We dont need over controlling law makers and government forcing their beliefs on others. This can be compared to ISIS forcing theyre beliefs onto others but instead of executing the people, the people are fined, charged and jailed.

Anyways if this law passes, are they going to make dating illegal too? So if escorting becomes illegal, previous escorts cannot put a dating ad online and date whoever the fuck they want and as many people as they want? Is this what the gov and law makers want? Over control of the people? Are they going to tell other ADULTS who they can or cannot date or how many they can date or that they cannot ask for money while on the date? Are they going to stop millions of people from submitting dating ads or who reply to them? Theyre over controlling fascists that dont belong as law makers or government, THAT IS MY VOTE.

If they want to help, they should make it easy for everyone to get tested for std's or aids right at home anytime they want. Then if the tests reveal they have aids or a serious std, THEN THATS WHEN I AGREE it should become illegal for them to escort or receive/pay for sexual service, but not when they are std/aids free. Get it? They want to punish people who are disease FREE by not allowing them to pay or receive money for a sexual service or dating or escorting and this is not fair.

harper has already tried to pass other laws to show his conservative wack job right supporters he is tough on crime, and each time he knew before the high court would slam it down, it is all bs with him

Well, like I tried to say in my rants, my intent of this thread was not to discuss whether this law would be enforced or survive. I just wanted to probe if it would affect reviewing habits while we wait and see how this all plays out.

The law itself seems to have a very strong case to be challenged and struck down in the long run; so this may end up being a very embarrassing venture for the Conservatives. While nobody admits to seeing sex workers, we know by the sheer numbers of workers there are in this country that hundreds of thousands of men are doing it. (including Conservative MPs that voted for this bill). They all have jobs, pay taxes, and are voters. If this ends up being heavy handed in their attempt to give it legitimacy, this will motivate a lot of apathetic voters to actually get out and vote to stick it to them. I think this particular bill will haunt them for a long time and may be one of the things that kills them at the ballot box.

Harper thrives on a low voter turnout and things like this can get people in that 35% who don't bother to vote, to be pissed off enough that they cast a ballot.

Reviews are fictional. Says so in the rules of the forum. I do however, find this absolutely hilarious as there has been next to no discussion on this forum about this bill. There was a thread a while back, but it fizzled out. Terb, perb, and merb have been going crazy on the subject for a while now, where suggestions by both clients and SPs have made some headway in how different situations could be handled. For SPs to reassure clients that all will be fine is pretty easy to say as you are now "protected" and the client is now the criminal. Just look at it from our perspective for once. Is LE going to come down hard on this? No one knows. Will they focus on the street workers and minors and leave the higher end providers alone? No one knows. People can speculate all they want, but the truth of the matter is that no one really knows anything for certain. The only absolute as of this moment is that the law will come into force on December 6th. Will I tempt the unknown? No! I have more to lose than most people.

In order for this bill to be a deterrent, they will have to show it "working". So at least for the first few months the RCMP detachments will be doing stuff around the country to demonstrate that. It will probably fizzle out quickly, but for the next little while we do have to be aware and extra cautious.

The point from some of the ladies that the law is unconstitutional, or will be challenged, or dropped , is a good one. But, that won't save the guys marriage who got busted in a backpages sting, and his wife files for divorce. He won't be getting her back a year later when he says "See, the Supreme Court got rid of it". So, while there is truth to that prediction, the consequences of an arrest even if it get's dropped, are big. We all have a lot to lose and caution will be necessary until we know what the local police forces and RCMP will be doing. I would only see someone I know for the first 3 - 4 months just to see how it all plays out. It is easy to laugh it off and call us men paranoid, but many of us have a lot at stake.
